I'm watching a stream with an ex dev of vanilla WoW, it's really interesting to listen to his views and ideas on various topics, about being dev/gamer, games in general.
He was actually talking about this topic the other day, and was in favor of 5man.

no it wouldn't, they'd maybe have to rebalance 4man content, increasing hp of all mobs/bosses, which would be simple. old content is irrelevant anyway. It would be more interesting cause you could have 1 melee/range/mage/tank/healer, which is every role; no particular reason to not have 5.
also your 2nd comment make no sense -you gave up on dps cause 45min que, but you think it's working fine? that's literally the reason they should add a 5th slot lol

How would adding another DPS slot help? You would then just have one more DPS waiting on a tank/healer...

Yes it would take them out of the queue, but without the others, they are still waiting, which is the issue your trying to fix...

Tanking and healing need to be more interesting to get people to queue with them more, then you will see a larger drop in DPS queue times, like you usually do when new tanks and healers are introduced for the first few days of a expansions or jobs release.
in 24man raids - where there's 1 tank, 2 healers, 5 dps - the que time is much shorter for dps than in 4man content, and tank que is the longest.
dps ques are long, because there are more dps than tank/healers, so dps have to wait in line; with an extra dps slot, each instance would get 50% more dps jobs, meaning more dps jobs get into an instance, rather than que, therefore less wait time.
If there was enough healers/dps for every tank, then everyone would get instant que, like tanks generally do.
so adding an extra dps slot, would be a big benefit.

just no

i'm worried that will generate 4x more instances, and crash the instance server, bottlenecking everyone as happened on balmung (possibly other full servers) where it took 3 days to get past 1st instanced fight, cause couldn't get in.
but the server split, and cross-server visit, may help a bit, but probably not much.
The more people you fit into an instance, the less instances, the less crashes, and less que times for everyone.
