I'm sorry OP, but I think you've characterized the conversation completely wrong. Does the following situation exist?:
A: I feel upset about the genderlock.
B: You suck, shut up.
Yes, it has happened. It does for any topic in any community. Does it make up a significant proportion of the conversation? Is that claim representative of the conversation? Not at all.
From my perspective, things have been:
A: I'm so angry about the genderlock!
B: I disagree with you!
A: You're censoring me! You're white-knighting!
Simply expressing disagreement isn't censorship, white-knighting, or shutting anyone down. Everyone else has just as much right to express their opinion as you.
Frankly I'm incredibly irritated that people are more upset about a cosmetic option than an entire class. I don't think it reflects well on you.
