Long time player who was introduced to this game through a steam sale in 2.0 and expected 2 hours of enjoyment.
we all knows how that goes and I love this world and its lore but.......
I also find this disturbing about the timing after SB2 pre-orders and how willing they will be to allow us to refund our SB2 preorders while we evaluate this change.

I was gifted A Realm Reborn through steam, and have been stuck ever since. Therefore I would welcome the opportunity to change completely over to Windows, even if a fee is involved.

anyone want to jointly join me in asking if we can safely request a refund to sb2 until after these changes have taken affect?
Due to the conditions to play being different from time of purchase and no foreseeable way to see this change in policy.

i'll be making a ticket tomorrow. as much as i love square, the higher ups are more likely to do something if enough people request a refund to the new shiny title.
so it may give yoshi more legroom to get something done.

EDIT: Can we get some people going to japan fanfest this topic and/or streamers that get interviews?

You're completely wrong. Steam does not require developers to adhere to any form of DRM.

You need to read the update notes a lot closer. This is being done to better align to Steam policies. How you can fathom that this is Steam not forcing developers to adhere to DRM, I don't know. Unless you're accusing S-E of lying.

This was already covered on the same page though, it's how the client should authenticate, nothing to do with the license that was stated earlier that's all. James isn't wrong either on that aspect. The issue here is that Steam is requiring an update so that the client will ONLY go through steam server Authentication prior to going to SE's so that Steam can validate its monthly numbers, this is a push they've been moving on for a bit now and starting to get heavy handed with it.

Edit: got a quick canned response back from SE Support, at least they didn't redirect me to the ffxi forums this time to post.

Same. Extremely disappointed that a change they knew would benefit not a single player is being forced on us. I despise Steam. It's been so long I don't remember why I bought my main account key through Steam, but it didn't matter because I just used the standalone launcher. If they don't offer a way to change account types, then this will finally be the excuse I need to unsub for good.

Any contractual issue is still an issue with SE, as they had to agree to the contract in the first place and are responsible for any consequences of that contract that adversely affect their customers.

It becomes an issue with SE when they do not allow the transfer of character data from a Steam account to a non-Steam PC version. I would have no problem with repurchasing the game if I could maintain all my progress.
