The main reason most ppl i try 2 get to play the game for not playing is the enforce roll... because a person shouldn't have 2 submit 2 one role for many in game jobs even in wows case has roles but your not enforced 2 be a tank as warrior that alone turns more ppl towards wow than ffxiv.. now the defense ppl use for the tanks are well you can off tank which is true however 97 percent of the game you are the only tank so not rlly a option outside of a select few things only about 3 percent of the game has 2 tanks and 2 healers

No one with a clear mind would ever recomment a new player to do PotD. You level way to fast to keep up with the story, which has way too much stuff locked behind it and you don't need the weapon from their either.

Honestly, while these points are valid, the same could be said for ANY new game, or players looking for something new. There will always be gripes, but, as far as gripes go, these are relatively minor.
I'm speaking as someone who literally just started playing the game this passed Saturday, out of boredom, and bought it on Sunday.
I have been gaming since 1999 when EQ came out. Dedicated over a decade of time hardcore raiding there before moving over to WoW. Have been there since classic, right before BC. Have tried many games in between, including this one, multiple times. For the last few weeks, I have been playing Project 99, and have enjoyed the hell out of it. For some reason, on Saturday, I decided to try this for the 4th time or so. I actually gave it a solid shot. Went passed level 5, and found myself really enjoying it. Enough to buy it. Less then a week in, I am almost 30, and have actually considered calling out of work a couple of times to stay home and play. I haven't felt that since the first day I started playing EQ.
For me, the hardest part about starting this game, and why it took 4 attempts, is the text. WAY to much text to just start out in a game. I have since seen cutscenes with voice acting, and that should be implemented in the beginning. SLOWLY introduce people to all of the text that is a part of this game, let them get used to it at a pace, instead of BAM, right off the bat, here is a 500k word essay for you to read before you can swing your sword once.
Once a person can get passed that, this game is actually very engaging. I'm loving the story line (yeah, even that completely random, VERY weird appearance guy with the comb and scissors), the people seem to be way more friendly, the chat isn't cluttered with horrific stupidity (quite the opposite, most times chat is a ghost town), the scenery is gorgeous, and as a transmog/glamour junkie, there is TONS of eye candy to go around, and that alone makes me want to get high level to get me some of that gorgeous armor.

This ^. To be fair, I get the complaint, there's a lot of story going on in this game - but that's one of the big "features" of XIV. Because... look at the current content. People are complaining that we don't get enough MSQ with each patch, yet it's "too much" for new players to go through. You can't really have it both ways without them creating two versions - a "novel" for the max-level bored players, and the "cliff notes" for the new players.

The big issue here is that XIV locks most of their content behind the MSQ - you can't just say "screw it" and ignore the story, power level to 70 and jump into Eureka/Omega/Ivalice. Maybe that's a bad thing, but at the same time, I like having content that's bound to story in a way that wouldn't make sense if you just dove in without doing the content. Now, I know that's not the primary reason they gate things - they want to force people to prolong the life of the game - but it doesn't change the fact that I prefer the way XIV does it to a vast majority of other games.

Nor would I want them to cut back on content that exists just so that future players can speed to max level, and I'd be very sad if all of the MSQ was boiled down within an expansion or two, because I like going back through particularly meaningful moments with alts (and eventually the "replay" feature they're going to add.)

I don't exactly understand why "outdated" is a bad thing in this place.

I mean for WoW refugees most are just waiting around till Classic WoW, so for them to come here and call it outdated seems a bit hypocritical.

If by outdated they mean how poor most classes perform until higher levels with limited abilities, I agree 100%.

In WoW, unless your playing a druid, you're limited to 2 or 3 roles. Even then, as a druid, if you don't like how feral plays, you're screwed as a player who wants to play melee DPS. A shaman who doesn't like how restoration plays is likewise screwed as a healer. And we're not even talking about race restriction.

In FFXIV, there is no enforced role. Switch to one of 12 unlimited non-tank jobs if you don't want to tank. Or if you don't like how one tank job plays, try the other two (soon 3) tank jobs.

New players shouldn't be spamming Palace of the Dead non-stop. MSQ usually gets you leveled. There are gaps here and there which you can use Palace of the Dead for but i personally like dungeons more.

I don't know a single online game where "the most efficient way" of achievieng X, Y or Z is not mind-numbing. Usually "the most efficient way" of getting something means doing a thing over and over and over again. Do you know any content that is still engaging after you've done it hundreds of times?

If you have been telling the people you want to keep playing the game to spam Palace of the Dead, please stop. You're making the game boring for them and I'm not surprised they're leaving.

This is what I usually tell people in Novice Chat when they ask about "best ways to level":
"There's Dungeons, Fates, Leves, Palace of the Dead and Squadron if you got that far. The most efficient is Palace of the Dead but it gets boring. My advice is to switch it up with these things. I normally do fates while waiting for dungeon queues"

I'm not dismissing that argument though. ARR is a tough pill to swallow. I wish the devs would hop to the office next door where the developers for FF Mobius work. They have released a few months ago a "digest" story mode where they trim off the fat of the original story and it still gives you access to the second season if you do it instead of the original story mode, so you have a choice: do the original story mode with all the fillers or go for the digest story where they make a summary of the original story.

The most efficient way to level is simply to do the MSQ until you cannot continue due to level restriction, then switch to highest leveled dungeons and local side quests to reach the required level while getting gears in the process before continuing with MSQ.

Every other way of leveling is simply to add variety to the game but should not be the focus while leveling.

Their position is that it would impact the look and feel of the game. They want certain classes (or roles) to have a certain look and feel. Now that argument kind of goes out the window when I can dress up like a stripper or run around in a pig suit.

However I will say this, Im not for just unlocking glamour with no restrictions. The way I feel it should work is pretty simple: If you want to glamour it, you have to have a class that can wear it. So as an example, if I want my WHM whos lvl 60 to wear PLD lvl 50 gear, I need to have the PLD class leveled to 50 and be able to equip that gear. Level restrictions also still stand, so if I had a lvl 60 PLD and a lvl 50 WHM, I cant glamour the lvl 50 WHM in lvl 60 PLD gear because the WHM isnt high enough. I think this will cut down on the concept of 'weird glamours' that the devs worry about while also providing more incentive for people to level alternate classes/roles.

That's actually great, I really like that idea.
