Well, if we're talking about 24 mans and what not, then the results are posted either due to auto log or the uploader just uploaded the log and didn't pick the option to select which fights should be uploaded. In content where the parse actually matters, it's used during weekly clears to see who cleared, and/or whether the person would be a detriment to the party if they were to go through with letting them in. Regardless, without a parse, this person would most likely be pretty well known in the raiding community on that data center if their performance is that bad that hinders the team. A parse helps make it easier to determine who needs to go, especially if each clear they had they servery unperformed.

They can also act as a Resume if you want to get into a static. They would still make you do trial runs, but having a Parse of the current and/or previous tiers would definitely help in persuading them to consider you as you already have the data to back up both your clears and performance.

I can answer this question! The answer is: to dodge bullets like these (courtesy of r/shitpostxiv)

In short, it helps people not waste their time with those who expect to get carried. Similar effects can be achieved with the same PF message, but with hidden logs.

So it does other people great service too, not just those parsing!

If you don't like dealing with people, MMOs may not be for you.

Seriously though, what happened to this being about self-improvement? It's starting to sound like it's exactly what I thought. It's a name and shame directory.

I am fine with dealing with all sorts of people. What I am not fine with, is people who expect others to do a stellar job for them so that they don't have to, just like in the example I gave. If you are a baddie yourself, maybe don't act high and mighty (and hypocritical) with things like "no baddies". The irony is that PF postings like those get checked for fflogs almost immediately. It's only fair that you can expect no baddies only if you yourself are not one, and have the numbers to back it up. Otherwise, it's almost always the case that someone is really hoping for a carry. So to re-iterate myself again, fflogs help people not waste their time with those who expect to be carried.

Even if SE did add in an official DPS meter, I can't imagine it would be anything like the 3rd party parsers. More likely it would be like the results screen you see at the end of PVP matches, that tells you how much damage everyone did for the whole fight, rather than giving you a current DPS readout throughout the fight.

And I certainly can't see them ever providing an official way to check someone's DPS records like The Site That Shall Not Be Named. The best an in-game parser would be likely to do is let you know how someone is doing only after you've completed a fight with them.

I would rather they didn't add parsers into the game. Maybe even crack down on the ones using the 3rd party ones.

See someone defending parsers called me out for assuming the mindset of those who created the parser, but now the mindset of other players is being assumed. You assume if someone's numbers are bad then they have ill intent and are just trying to leech. You've labeled them all "baddies." In fact, you're making a really fantastic argument AGAINST parsers.

Parsers don't make the raiding community more toxic. Parsers simply let the prexisting toxic community members pretend they have an excuse to whine about people. Adults are simply too busy being adults and/or improving to care.

Now you tell me if that doesn't smell fishy. And don't use the term "baddies" if you don't want to be called that yourself.

SE should just add official addons support and get it over with.
You can still easily see who's doing good or bad just looking at the aggro bar in the default party interface, more or less.

Though since FF14 already has most of the features you would get with addons in other MMO games, it wouldn't be a bad idea to let SE make a damage analysis feature as you suggest. I have ever rarely seen people getting harrassed for low dps in other games, they're very isolated cases.
Ill mannered people, or just people having a bad day will call you bad anyway whether they can see your performance or not. It happened a lot to me when I was still playing LoL.

Dps is important not just to see who is bad but for the players themselves who are learning new jobs and want to know whether they're learning the job properly or not. Should I keep this melds? should I rotate skills differently? should I use AoE in this situation? etc.
