Minfilia or Lyse?

who do you prefer Minfilia or Lyse as a character both felt underutilized within the game and want to hear what you all think?

I prefer Minfilia as i felt she actually did more(abiet behind the scenes) / deserved to be there in the story not once in SB have i felt Lyse earned her the screentime she has had despite someone who can actually join us in fights.

I don't recall being a fan of either and Lyse at least never gets kidnapped, but I'd probably say I enjoyed Minfilia more.

Minfilia is kind of a victim of being the quest-giver in a part of the story that isn't terribly exciting. Had she been around during Heavensward (you know what I mean), she probably would've been handled with more care. But by that point, the damage had been done and they decided to write her out. That being said, you know the arguments against her: "Pray return so I can tell you something I could tell you over the linkpearl", kind of redundant considering Alphinaud accomplishes her same role more or less, gets kidnapped, doesn't fight, etc. I suppose the main reason I'm not more upset by Minfilia is that I didn't ever really expect anything more from her and the game never gave me reason to. She was a non-combatant and I just kind of made peace with that.

Lyse, in contrast, is a character who does a 180 in terms of personality and never feels like the person that was established in the previous two expacs beyond being thoughtless and quick to fight at times. Taking away Papalymo really hurt her character, because they were basically a stand-up duo for all intents in purposes, with him being the straight man to her funny man. But now she's the revolutionary leader of Ala Mhigo... only she never really rises to the role, because the plot wanted to focus more on Doma than Gyr Abania. So she just kinda becomes leader because Curtis really liked her dad. But then that doesn't work out too well, so now Raubahn is essentially leader, or at least in an important advisor role. I'd need to go through 4.1's cutscenes again to refresh my memory.

And that really disappointed me, because Yda was one of my favorite characters in 2.0 to the point of being one of the few Scions I enjoyed seeing onscreen.

Lyse never forced me to drop everything to travel back to Vesper Bay for a two-minute conversation.

Minfillia did a lot of work, it was just irritating as a player that I had to keep going back to the Waking Sands to attend meetings via her Linkpearl summons. Plus she needed to be rescued and on the whole she seemed to exist to pad playtime via traveling and "go thither, come hither" quest assignments. The NPCs mentioned that the Scions wouldn't exist without her brokering alliances and agreements between the various nations -and I believe it. But boy howdy was it annoying to get sent to go risk my life to kill the latest primal by someone who probably couldn't defend themselves against a litter of hungry kittens... after trekking across the continent to get that directive... because she didn't want to use the convenient device that let her give me the summons in the first place. So she was a victim of poor usage by the writers/developers more than a poor character.

Lyse just... did nothing, then got it all. She did the big reveal at the end of HW then proceeded to do nothing but grit her teeth and clench her fists in 4.0. No trace of what I loved about her Yda personality was left at all- she was a totally different character and despite tagging along with us for the journey through the East she didn't seem to do or learn much. As much as I was disappointed that Ala Mhigo was resolved in one fell swoop, I'm glad I don't see much of her any more. It almost felt like a betrayal to see such a lively, funny character become a bland inexperienced do-gooder. So on the whole I think I prefer Minfillia since she was put on a bus but Lyse will be around as long as Ala Mhigo is in the picture.


Best girl, of course, is Alisaie.

I'm not a huge fan of either of them. I don't hate Lyse or anything, but it's very weird how she actually got less interesting in SB. It should have been her moment to shine but instead she mostly faded into the background while we all focused on Hien and Co instead.

Minfilia though, bleh. There's no denying that she is very good at her job, but she's also very unlikable as a character. I was pretty happy to see her leave and will be really annoyed if they bring her back.

Best girl, of course, is Alisaie.

I think you mean Tataru, but Alisaie is a close second.

Minfillia or Lyse... jesus this is seriously an awful choice. Minfillia at least had a personality and a little bit of development. Lyse on the other hand has the character depth of a sheet of paper. I miss Yda and Paplymo. The two of them were entertaining and had huge personalities, which always made it a joy to see them on the screen. Minfillia drove me nuts with her "go here, go there" nonsense, but I would probably still take her over Lyse at this point. It's really sad, because I was very excited to see what kind of person Lyse was going to turn out to be. And maybe... MAYBE Lyse doesn't know who she is. Maybe after hiding for so long and pretending to be her sister she has lost her identity and so she has the emotional range of a mop. Who knows. I'm praying that she will finally step up to the plate and give us something. If not, kill her off and give us a good character to take her place, because right now she is absolutely useless and an emotional drain when I have to talk to her.

If I had to choose between the two, it would have to be Lyse.

As far as I'm concerned Minfillia did nothing but stand behind her desk, tell me that "I must needs return to the Waking Sands" from no matter what side of the planet I'm on, and get kidnapped. Having to put up with her over several alts has only given me a hatred for her shared with no other NPC in this game (save maybe Asahi). My only regret is that I couldn't make my character look completely apathetic (or even celebratory) to her departure.

I much preferred it when Lyse was Yda, however. I've never been a huge fan of the Scions, but the character dynamic Papalymo and Yda had was what made them the most tolerable of the bunch (at least to me). I feel Papalymo's death in retrospect was tragic in that not only did we lose the amusing banter and camaraderie between them, but we lost that playful side of Yda/Lyse that helped her stand out from the others. I understand that having lost her best friend would affect that, but I was hoping she would grow back into it a little over the course of 4.0, you know?

I prefer Minfillia. Annoying quests aside, she was at least slightly interesting. Lyse on the other hand? She was about as appealing as a mouldy old sandwich.

I liked Minfillia, she was one of the of the few NPCs who actually seemed to like the main character and actually kept the Scions feeling like an organisation that was actually doing something. It was nice having a NPC who seemed to be trying to keep on top of stuff of screen rather than the very handwavey feel it has now.

Lyse is just a terrible character.
