So I haven't touched PLD in awhile. I'm usually tanking on DRK, but wanted to mix things up a bit. I have Provoke on PLD where Dark Arts is. I load into a Trials roulette get Final Steps. The other tank is a WAR and throws up their Tank stance. So I put up Sword Oath. Fight starts and I used Fast Blade and out of muscle memory hit Provoke. I know I'll play it off and Shirk him. Wait, I don't Shirk! That's how long it's been since I did anything with PLD. On the brightside-ish, I was just standing there looking for Shirk and not doing anything and he got aggro back. The rest of the run was smooth. I was setting there chanting to myself, "Don't hit Provoke. Don't hit Provoke." It was like playing Gaige in Borderlands.
I que up for Trial Roulette and I get Titan HM I'm like nice this is a decent one, everyone's a sprout including my co healer who is a SCH, one of the tanks is the only other non sprout with their mentor crown on we pull and people start dying to Landslides ohboy. Only 2 died but then the SCH dies and everyone jumps off I'm like guys we only lost the OT and 1 DPS we can still do this, nope everyone like lemmings jump off the cliff and we reset, ooookay round 2 I guess.
We get to the heart phase, I get Gaol'd and the co healer doesn't AoE heal nor does anyone break me out while I put a 1 on my Gaol everyone dies again because the healer is just running around like a chicken with their heads cut off, everyone is standing in Weights of the Land and dead, sigh round 3 I guess.
We wipe again because the tank aims titan at me I eat a left hook then a table flip at the same time and the other healer is just spamming Adlo on themselves and they all die yet again to standing in Weights of the land and Tumults.
Round 4 with the big ol Echo surely this time we got it right? We get past heart phase this time everything's going well then the SCH eats 3 Weights of the Land and I solo heal the rest with the 2 tanks alive and 2 DPS and we finish the boss as the rest are just dead Weight of the Land hur hur.
I'm usually not this tilted but there was a lot of things that were just wrong, for one just my co-healer dying to just walking, Nin not using Ninjitsu and spamming throwing knives, Brd not using songs or Straight Shot, I mean I get it's Titan HM but I can't teach people how to play their class, I told them how to do the encounter and how to adjust the good thing is I left with 5 comms so I that's good I suppose.

I finally started learning Tanking (that wretched Tanxiety had me all sorts of afraid to try it out) and I realized that I don't have Tanxiety, I have Tankger. Maaaaajor anger. I can't handle the dps pulling aggro from me and pulling mobs all dungeon long. Like, did you do Hall of Novice? Did you do any sort of research on party dynamics--why are you the way that you choose to be? I dunno how many times I have to tell dragoons: It is not a contest. We are literally supporting you so you can get the most damage per second at positions you need to make happen. I hold it, you punch it. I'm the big slow goon, you're the deliverance of sweet sweet damage per second. IF you want to tank, then for the love of GOD, just go tank. No one cares that you're pulling aggro--most people know well enough by now that if you're purposefully pulling aggro to prove your damage is higher than the tanks, you're an idiot and dont understand party mechanics. It just slows us down and causes mayhem.
Having that same problem where scholars are running ahead of me and hit guys with ruin. Then they expect me to pull them off of them. I’m like no, u grab them, u tank them![]()
Being a tanking noob who's getting over this tankxiety I feel this struggle. Some runs are a cakewalk, and then the run with the BRD or SMN or whoever who wants to pull everything for me. Now, I don't go that slow either, I have been playing the game long enough that I know people gotta go fast. But yeesh, I just think it makes everything go so much slower when you constantly have to take back hate and reset for antsy dps and healers.I finally started learning Tanking (that wretched Tanxiety had me all sorts of afraid to try it out) and I realized that I don't have Tanxiety, I have Tankger. Kinda like that pet peeve when they sprint in front of me...like testing how far they can go without leashing anything.
For me Tankxiety stayed with me for a good while until I decided I won't be tanking any high end content like EX primals or savage raids.....too much pressure for meBeing a tanking noob who's getting over this tankxiety I feel this struggle. 1) What you mentioned (Tank RAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!!!)
2) Don't know the layout, flow, mechanics of instances well enough
3) That incident in a F2P MMO in winter of 2014 when I was trying this genre of games for the first time
Thanks for helping make the FFXIV community a fun and welcoming place. If you're not sure you have (and you very likely have), make it a point to be patient or helpful the next time you log in so that you can know you've made a difference.
If you're on the Aether data center, congratulations! I might be your nextexciting adventurehealer in the Duty Finder. Please look forward to it.
Pulling extra mobs for an inexperienced tank isnt a great idea. Im not here to argue that(though if the healer is bored enough that they feel the need to grab more, maybe trust the healer that the group can handle more? i know a lot of those low level dungeons the fairy can heal the whole thing perfectly fine without the SCH actually doing a thing). But i do feel the need to clarify something here because it isnt clear based on what you wrote. Now this is probly something you already know as you appear to have other classes at 70(so im mostly typing it for anyone newer who might be reading). If youre only face pulling and/or not doing enmity moves on the whole pull youre actually the reason that agro is going everywhere. Ive seen tanks pull a group of 4 mobs by running into them, proceed to only do their 123 combo on a single mob(sometimes "helpfully" marking it with a big 1 so we can tell), not use any aoe moves to spread the hate around(flash/overpower/unleash etc), not notice when the first heal causes 3 mobs to peel off onto the healer, then get mad at me for having agro on the guys i pulled off the healer. Same thing with tanks not using their AoE moves(or even just switching targets during their hate combo to spread the enmity around) and me pulling agro for doing my aoe rotation. Agro going everywhere might be slowing us down(and honestly if i pull agro i run whatever turned toward me back to the group that the tank pulled and just continue to do my rotation while standing next to the tank, so i dont know how much slower that could be), me gimping my damage output(either by single targeting when i should be using aoe or by waiting 20-30 seconds into a pull before i start attacking so the tank can build a lead) because a tank isnt using their skill set correctly is definitely slowing us down.I can't handle the dps pulling aggro from me and pulling mobs all dungeon long. ... No one cares that you're pulling aggro--most people know well enough by now that if you're purposefully pulling aggro to prove your damage is higher than the tanks, you're an idiot and dont understand party mechanics. And before anyone responds with "use your hate reduction tools", i do. Problem is i only have 2 of them with long cool downs, so there isnt one available every pull. If the choice is between making a trash pull easier for the tank versus making the upcoming boss easier for the entire group, i choose the boss 10 times out of 10.
And no, none of this is based on experience of being in a group with you - i dont think that i have. Just some general advice for new tanks(use your aoes - a lot if you have to, spread the enmity around, dont tunnel vision onto a single enemy in a pull).
