That seems to be the case when I looked. I'm just gonna back off from this thread before I get myself hit with a ban. Seems I misinterpreted some things.
I found the one with Alphinaud to be a nice way to break up a long passive cutscene and let the player do something. The one with Y'shtola was perhaps a bit weird since my own character was doing battle with Sadu not a hundred yalms away, but I don't hate it.
They already announced the solution for that. You'll be able to move over to less populated servers to do your MSQ with world visiting.
If having the extra instances is going to cause the sample problem when stormblood launched where everyone had to get in line to deal with Raubahn EX or Pipin Savage. I would much rather skip it. "A system error occurred during event movement". I had nightmares for days!!
I don't think that helps. You might have less of a crowd surrounding the character in the overworld, but as I understand it, you'll be waiting in the same queue for the same instance server (which is used by the whole data centre) regardless of which world-server you are accessing it from.
Let's be honest, solo duties are never going away, they've been a huge part of the MSQ since the beginning, so I'd much rather keep an assortment of different types of solo duties. Especially since nothing specific about the RP ones makes them any different from the "you v. 25 lackeys & 1 boss, most likely trying to outwit your scion companion's AI more than the actual enemies" duties we get - they're all a case of "queue up and take a spot while you do your thing in your solo space."If having the extra instances is going to cause the sample problem when stormblood launched where everyone had to get in line to deal with Raubahn EX or Pipin Savage. Hey, the NPCs aren't that bad! They even respond to stack markers - which going from the Tales From the Duty Finder thread, puts them above a fair percentage of the actual player base...
Yeah, but otherwise they're all clearly standard dps since none of them ever leaves an AOE circle...
Personally, I didn't like the wine fetch quest from the last 24-man raid very much. But I wanted to unlock it so I did the quest. So quests like that could be optional too, couldn't they? Or all the fetch quests in the earlier MSQ where I just have to fight a monster for its loot and bring it to some NPC.
And maybe someone doesn't like to do dungeons and trials during the MSQ and would like them to be optional...?
What I want to say is that you usually don't like every single aspect of a game like this. You sometimes have to do levels/missions/quests you don't like. And if those parts are only very short like these instances where you have to fight as an NPC you should actually be glad. It could be much worse.
In the past I never liked the part in FFIX where you have to go to Oeilvert but had to do that every time I played the game. But I'm sure there are players who liked it or didn't mind it. Or all the present time stuff in Assassin's Creed Odyssey (or other AC games). I think it's sooooo horrible. But I just skip through it. THAT should be optional, because MANY players really hate it. These few instances where you play as NPCs in FFXIV are few, short and rather popular though.
