What??? My post got eaten? That is so not fair lol
I was gonna say that I was about to join you haha
SB bosses also have more HP, deal more damage, etc and in the next expansions our stats will increase further and so will bosses also have more HP, deal more damage, etc. This really has no issue in itself because everything goes up (our stats but also the stats of the enemies).Raising this thread back up because I wanted to bring up a concern of mine that's been kinda picking at my head since I dove into 4.4. And it's Power Creep. Something that's running rampant in this game now..
I remember when the item level was only 130, then 270. Now we are sitting at 400 with what might be 500 and 600 in the future. This bothers me. We are already so strong and Stormblood has put the power creep *through the roof*. Classes are just casually throwing 25k attacks and 50k attacks like it's nothing and we have attacks with 800-1,000 potency. What is the path FFXIV will take with this power creep? Next expansion are we going to get attacks that are 600 potency 10sec cooldown, SAM with 1,500 potency attacks? Grade VII materia boosting stats by 75 each? Tanks with 140,000HP? It seems like that's the way we're going.
Although we know nothing of the upcoming expansion I feel safe in assuming that this is what will happen or else they you(Devs) seriously change something with the progression system. Or i1000 and +501 STR per piece will soon be a reality. Please don't allow us to just eventually pump out over 100,000 damage regularly like it's nothing and have bosses with a billion HP because it really doesn't sound that fun.. we are already way too strong in SB. Direct Hit is overpowered and too many stats only enhance DPS.
In WoW it went up to HP being in the billions and they've done a stat squish 2 times by now to reduce the numbers.
But generally people hate stat squish because they see their DPS numbers going doing and complain (but they seem to forget that boss HP and damage done also goes down).
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
I agree with most of the things written in the opening post.
The other day I was working on normal Alphascape, and found myself asking what was even the point of getting the tokens. They drop i380 gear that will be quickly replaced by the Genesis one, and frankly I personally don't see any point of doing them anymore. I'm guessing it's meant for gearing up alts or something, but as someone who only play 2 jobs, I find it a bit pointless as I'll replace all that gear soon enough anyway.
As a result, after completing the MSQ, Alphascape and the new Trial, I found myself with... absolutely nothing to do. In less than a week into the new patch. I've no interest in Savage content (more power to you if you do), so now the only thing I can work on casually is crafting.
And crafting is a whole new can of worms, too. Everything about it seems like a chore, from having to navigate the awkward inventory and retainer system, to waiting for a specific time of day to gather the resources you want. All so that you can repeat the same rotation over and over again (that can even be macroed, for Pete's sake) to get a subpar equipment that will be replaced soon.
I'm just curious where all the resources are being allocated to, since we seem to be getting less and less with each patch. Less dungeons, less gear sets, etc. All while not addressing some of the biggest complaints the game has, like housing for example. I'm just hoping they are prepping up for something big soon, because things are growing very stale and repetitive real soon.
As of right now, I'm mostly treating the game as a single player game that I play once every 3 months.
What numbers you see don't really matter too much in the grand scheme of things since they tune things based on ilvl (expected damage/healing output/eHP, and they'll increase the boss HP and amount of damage they do and scale them appropriately). The high potency attacks have long cooldowns or have some sort of drawback to them.Raising this thread back up because I wanted to bring up a concern of mine that's been kinda picking at my head since I dove into 4.4. (Made up numbers) Let's say you have 40k HP - A raidwide AoE does 20k. that's 50% of your health. Next expansion comes out, a raid wide does 100k, but your HP went up to 200k. Still 50%. Your healing output would have went up as well. A drawback is the rather large numbers it can end up as, and older content starts getting 1 shot and soloed but since you can unsync them anyways...
Sure, you might end up having +50% more DPS/HPS/eHP next expansion just eyeballing numbers.. but the amount of HP bosses have and the amount of damage they do will also go up appropriately if tuned properly. Same in reverse, they could squish the numbers so we're doing 1k hits, but they'll just squish the HP values, too. So we have raidwides doing 5k, but our health would be 10k, still 50% or whatever number they decide it should be based on how they balance healers. Not much difference except smaller numbers.
So it's not really a big deal, unless you have a problem dealing 100k damage per hit or something. It's all relative though, if 100k is 1% of the boss health and 1k is 1% of the bosses health with smaller numbers, it's mostly the same.
This reminds of ARR launch when they cut everyone's 1.0 gil and redid all the NPC prices to make the numbers smaller.
