I did the housing quests on a couple of alts a few months ago (so within 2018 and after 4.3 dropped). The 'special update' text that you showed in your screenshot appeared when zoning in to the housing area for the first time, but it talked about demolition, I believe (memory is a bit hazy, but I think I do remember seeing it). Seems like they replaced that messaging in 4.4 with the mannequins update.

I saw the 'special update' text on my main as well the first time I entered a housing district after the patch dropped. If you log out in a housing district, you'll see the message immediately when you login, so there might be some misconception that it's a 'login' notification. But it is not - you have to enter the housing district to see that message.

I would be curious to see the most recent quest text, but I may be far too lazy to level an alt to level 5. lol X: I wonder if that additional text (when you logged back in) only flags after you have completed the quest. I'm gonna go try on my level 1 guy and see if I get anything.

ETA: Did not get a 2nd message when logging back in from the housing ward.

Thanks for that, Skivvy. I appreciate it wasn't just for me, rather for the conversation as a whole, but I'm grateful nonetheless! It also shows that they do show you a bunch of other information that isn't quite as significant as how one could lose their estate completely. They're already doing the "hand holding" that so many people seem to bemoan, and yet not for one of the most important systems. It is only explained in-game, as you rightly confirm, beneath a dialogue option that seems to relate to something different, 3 levels into conversation with an NPC you're only told about when you first enter the housing ward (and never again).

I am curious about the Ko post I missed, though!

While it unfortunately won't help your particular situation at all, I at least hope the information can help persuade SE to take a 2nd look at this and implement a better notification system. ._.

And the post had a comment about how everyone else managed to find the information, and millions of people can't be wrong. But also conceded that it's not a good system. Was a bit more colorful though - I'm afraid I am not doing it justice. :P

What's amazing is people have been in their house a day prior, logged in the next day and someone else is living on their housing plot. SE's systems just random demoed the plot. SE's response is "¯\_(ツ)_/¯ sorry nothing we can do".

With the QOL requests aside, an interesting thread came up on Reddit today highlighting more issues with SE's email notification system

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...ates_received/

To sum up the image, the OP received their 10-day demolition notice.....3 days prior to demolition. There have also been many, many claims of people not getting any notification at all. Leaving notification to out-side email only is just a bad idea as there are many factors that can come into play (person not updating address, notification going to spam, SE's emails not even sending properly in the first place...).

That's strange. I received an email notice for 15 days and 3 days but nothing that mentioned 10 days.

Ugh. Not this again. How many times do we have to point out that this is an unsubstantiated rumor which no one has been able to prove actually happened? I'm fairly certain that we covered it earlier in this very thread. Either post proof or stop rumormongering.

I got nothing for 15 days, just the one called "10-day notice" which was sent 5 days before the demolition date.

Personally, I would prefer to get a pop up window after logging in telling me if I have any active demolition timer, than all the spam about achievements and other crap that we get. It's astonishing that the only thing that you can permanently lose gets a way lower priority on that and is almost hidden, while stuff that you can check with literally two clicks seems to deserve getting put there even after just changing zones (by default settings, mind you). Especially when it's well known that the e-mails *can* fail to be delivered on time, or at all.

I think that if someone is *paying* the sub and playing, at least they deserve to get an in-game notification if -for whatever reason that is not ours to judge- they get their demolition timer running. If customers can't keep their plots while they're still actively supporting the game with their good money (and let's not forget that that's because of a terrible design decision that's only SE's fault, and that the other big MMOs don't have this issue... even when you don't keep paying), the least that they deserve is that the game does its best to keep them informed about something as important as this. As a customer it's almost insulting that, as I said, other less important features get that treatment while this one doesn't. It makes one think that there's either a hidden agenda behind that decision, or that this is just plain incompetence. I'm aware that it sounds harsh, and I'm not saying it as trying to insult anyone, but I don't know what else one can think to excuse this oversight.
