Mannequins were a great idea. Implementation is horrible.

Being able to dress up a mannequin in your house is a wonderful idea on SE's part.

However, as I'm experimenting with it, I'm becoming incredibly disappointed by the limitations in this new system.

An item displayed on the mannequin is, essentially, "consumed". Not forever lost, but as long as it's being displayed on the mannequin, you don't have access to it. Yes, you can put an item up for sale and it'll still appear when sold, but I have quite a few things I would want to display without wanting to sell, as well as things that are bound. This essentially means, for example, that I can't use the same event-exclusive item on more than one mannequin.

But, you know, I can work with that, I thought. Perhaps I'll collect a set of "emperor's new" clothing, glamour the desired appearance over the gear, and then put that on display.

... except you can't put an item that has any sort of glamour applied over it on display.

So not only do you HAVE to use the base item that you apparently like enough to put it on display, you can ONLY use it on that one mannequin if it's unique or exclusive, and you completely lose access to it while it's actually on display.

Why not treat equipment slots like kurenai or zhloe? Why treat it as inventory space when you're not using it to sell anything? Why no ability to use glamour plates, which should be such an obvious inclusion to this system?

I am just so incredibly disappointed in this. I think I won't be using it all in its current state.

Mannequins are not intended to increase armory space. Let's just get that in the clear right now so anyone else with expectation can see the intention.

I have to fiddle around with this, but why would you want to display a piece that has a glamour tied to it? Why not just display the glamour itself? I might be misunderstanding your intention, but I would think ideally you'll want to use glamour items for display purposes. If you have discarded the glamour piece, you'll just have to reacquire it. You wouldn't want to glamour items you intend to sale because the buyer may not like it, nor want to pay 500 Gil to remove it.

I think Mannequins are just another testament to the devs over complicating something simple. People just wanted to display cool armor sets they liked like AF, Dungeon pieces and what not to get them out of their inventory. The devs then decided to take it a step further and link it to the MB to allow you to sell stuff. Weather it was to try and get people to visit houses or w/e it just over complicated a simple idea.

Sell piece on display for 999,999,999 gil.
    Worst case scenario, you're rich.

It sounds like the programmers have approached it primarily from a “crafters selling craftable gear” concept and not designed it optimally as a display stand.

If it’s designed to display items that you are selling, then it makes sense that glamours cannot be applied, otherwise people could “false-advertise” what the item on sale is by glamouring it into something else.

Glamour items for display purposes is *exactly* what I want to use it for.

But that's the problem. If I like the item enough to use it as a glamour, why would I want to lose access to the base item while using it this way?

Yeah, some of them I can buy again from calamity salvager. But there are also cash shop items, which are one-of-a-kind.

EDIT: Not to mention some of the items are more difficult to attain if I wish to get more. Wolf marks, raid rewards, rare dyes, etc.

A whole host of problems, even if workable.

It's good thing the patch notes mentioned these features are coming in the future then, eh?

Just encountered another glaring issue, possibly the worst so far.

it costs retainer sale slots to just hold items on display. A small house's full complement of visible non-accessory non-weapon gear costs an entire retainer's worth of sale slots. Jesus christ.

    From patch notes:
    * An upcoming patch will allow you to display gear without occupying retainer sale slots.
