So I saw this news and I'm kind of cheesed that there's at least one item that was/is a contest prize that you can just buy with an insignificant amount of gil. Doesn't that kind of ruin the point of having it be a prize altogether?

Can't wait to get my Gaelicap next year.
I seem to remember folk justifying the 1.0 earrings no longer being exclusive. I don't see the problem with making event items freely available to everyone. Heck, take it further, every exclusive item should be made available.
I don't really consider playing 1.0 to be winning a contest. Meanwhile I put effort into the entries I submitted to multiple contests to win the Scarf of Wondrous Wit, and now any ol schmuck can buy it with no effort.
So when do they add the feature to spend 50 gil to finish a raid? And those hairstyles and emotes locked behind HoH? When can I buy those for next to nothing.
EDIT: Plus, 1.0 items are no longer obtainable at all, meanwhile contest items can still be won. There's a difference between being exclusive and unobtainable.

People put effort into getting their earrings. Come on, it was obvious that they'd do this with other "exclusive" items after the community approved so heavily of the earrings being made available.
If it's the scarf you're worried about, then I think you're a bit late. They've already put it for sale in the past. Pretty sure it's sitting in my Armoire somewhere.
EDIT: Guess I was wrong. Ah well, guess I'll get to pick it up and throw it in now!

I'll make the same argument I did about the earrings. Barely anyone used/showed them off anyway and you still have had exclusivity for a decent length of time. Get over it. I did the FF11 collab back in the day for my Shantotto minion, it then went onto Mogstation a few years later. Know how I felt? I didn't care. I didn't use the damn thing anyway and if some "schmuck" who joins late wants it and will get some enjoyment from it why should I care?
You did efforts to gain exclusivity over those items for a long while, just like how iphone users pay an obscene amount of money in order to obtain their newest shiny toy as soon as it's released, knowing that the prices will go down later.
It's been a few years. I believe that people who couldn't win every contest also deserve a chance at obtaining some of those items?

You could no longer obtain the earrings through any means. The contest prizes can be won through occasional contests. It's not really the same case. But if gloating makes you feel better, go ahead.
Unless they make all contest prizes available and show new prizes items for next contests, this feels like an error they made. But still as someone who had won contests before, I honestly don't care as much. I don't think it's right but I won't throw a fit cause someone bought a fancy item for 50 gil that I've had for over a year. I had my thrill for winning, I had my fun by participating and I enjoyed and still enjoy the item I won.
“The Itinerant Moogles will return”, the link says.
I’m sure I’ve heard about them before and that they sold exclusive items that you couldn’t get anywhere else, so is it actually that in the meantime they’ve been using those items as “exclusive” contest prizes but now they’ve decided to bring back the original source?
It’s a bit unfair for those who won the items previously, but aren’t they like ‘bonus’ prizes anyway, while the main one is getting your design implemented in the game? (Or were they used for other types of contests too?)
