Astroturfing likes means nothing. If it's the same six people liking each other posts, just to inflate their "medals" for whatever reason, like they're playing a game on the forum.

Astroturfing is using automated tools and unscrupulous people to push an idea or stance (generally an unpopular one) to make it seem more legit/beneficial/popular than it may actually be. Astroturfing is what the ISP lobby does whenever someone whispers about Net Neutrality near Washington DC. People upvoting and voicing opinions on a video game forum about the state and direction of the game, and happening to mostly disagree with you, is not.

If you don't like people disagreeing with you and debating you I'm not sure why you post on a public forum for such a hot-button topic. You seem to think raiding is the root cause of all the game's problems, from lackluster content patches to jerks in DF to fugly glamour sets. It's a ridiculous position given that only a tiny fraction of the player base actually cares about raiding in general. If you calmed down and didn't jump in every time to say outlandish things like people who disagree with you are part of some personal astroturfing campaign against you, you might find more support.

No, people reporting others for stupid things like linking or mentioning fflogs or using a swear word were the most common kinds of bans mentioned there.

So maybe if the forums weren't full of princesses who can't handle someone saying 'ACT' or a word thay rhymes with duck but starts with f I wouldn't have had to make that thread.

People get banned for forgetting what it’s like to have a shred of decency or respect when caught in a heated debate with another poster, and when they start personally attacking them (with actual verbal insults—such as the person who called someone outright a “hypocrite” a few pages back) rather than debating their argument; or from uttering a wordy-durd, which is the most common reason people get slapped with warnings or bans around here according to Moro’s thread (not “astroturfing” or “dogpiling”); or for mentioning certain third-party tools or websites that people here love to hate, and flock to the REPORT icon the minute they see it typed.

They aren’t banned for “astroturfing likes” or “dogpiling”. Those banned are usually the ones who lose their cool long enough to personally insult either a single poster, or a multitude of them. Or two people that get so caught up in an argument they resort to personally attacking one another rather than having a civil debate. Look no further than a certain 110+ page thread on the front page of General Discussion for proof of the second scenario.

Most of the people I see banned tend to get banned because they did one of the things I mentioned above—some are justified (such as those who call other names, or curse at others simply because they disagree), and some are not.

With regards to astroturfing, perhaps you should educate yourself on what that actually means. Unless you were wanting to insinuate that the “same six people” either pay one another to like their posts, or that they are all sockpuppet accounts - or that they create sockpuppet accounts - just to inflate their own posts on a discussion forum. Just because you like to throw around terms like these doesn’t mean they’ll help your argument—especially when you continue to use them in incorrect contexts.

If these people, whom I'll no doubt assume you count me among, were wrong? Why is it their posts are typically agreed with and liked whereas those they reply to wind up on a twitter feed to be laughed at?

But my OP for example, has almost 3x as many likes as your first post here..so if we're going by likes for being right, would that mean I'm almost 3x rightier than you?
