Umm I do play tank, but not exclusively unlike the person i was replying to but ok. Your comment is bizzarre and I'm not even sure how you came to that conclusion.

Looking at Frizzes statment... no, they're certainly not.
People like Frizze are at best the ones that make tanking enjoyable because you actually need to keep an eye out for them and do something. But having to do something and having that sort of burden isnt for everyone, so most people dont play tank and have to wait for them...
No tank worth their salt has an issue with DPS who challenge them for aggro, personally I appericiate that even, because it shows me that the DPS in question is worth their salt aswell!
And do you really want more tanks who cant handle simple "mechanics" like maintaing aggro? Because it sounds a bit like you only care about getting a tank-body in your roulette, not about that tank being able to do their job...

Oh lol, everyone wants to make these crazy assumptions about me. I certainly don't need gear for my tank from a roulette, I run them fro fun. I can count on 1 hand the number of times I've had aggro issues in a dungeon, and they all involved a lack of aggro management skills from the dps, or a high dps job bursting single-target on a group of 8+ mobs. What I'd really rather have in in a tank when I'm healing or dpsing, is one who knows how to maintain aggro while bringing phat dps, and you don't learn to do that without losing hate occasionally. The amount of vitriol based on assumption aimed at tanks by some people is ridiculous. The number of tanks on these forums and reddit who have said they're giving up on tanking because of this vitriol is also absurd. I don't go around calling out every dps that can't even do a proper rotation let alone handle mechanics.Looking at Frizzes statment... no, they're certainly not.

Had an expert run as DRK with a WHM and two BLMs. First thing the healer says is to wish me luck holding threat against this party.
My reply: "Challenge accepted."
Aside from losing one slime after the second boss, went smooth as butter. And that was because one of the BLMs make a crack about me staying in Grit on the trash pulls, so I turned it off to see what would happen.
No comms, of course. Eh.
I get that this is all kind of third party but as my post is the one Frizze was essentially agreeing with when you decided to ascribe guilt to them for the lack of tanks in an mmo (which LOL show me an mmo without a tank deficit please) I feel obligated to reply.Oh lol, everyone wants to make these crazy assumptions about me. How is expecting an experienced tank to hold threat vitriolic? It is literally their primary function. The PLD from my story had cleared o5s and o6s as well as not being new to Ridorana. At level 70 even if you jump potioned it is 100% reasonable to expect you to be able to hold threat against a dps. I'm not a tank main and have never tanked anything harder than a Rabanastre and even I know that after a threat reset you likely have bigger concerns than reapplying your dot .
The PLD was sixth on our party's threat table when Destroy targeted me. Sixth in a party of lackluster dps seeing as the run wound up uploaded and it turns out even dying and losing my damage up stacks I was first on that fight. That is what you call not even trying. A DRK picked it up off of my dead body so it didn't go around smashing others. So a tank from another group who hasn't tanked anything but their add on Belias before had better situational awareness about threat issues than the guy who had been MTing the whole instance.
Tanks catch some unfair criticisms just like any other role, none of what I or Frizze said falls into that category though.
Not really a vent, and it's more from PF, but I'm just kinda out of it lately. I've been trying to kill Ultima's Refrain from the start. Progged with my static for around 2 and a half months, getting to Suppression, but we stopped doing it because some people were just way too inconsistent. Then I have been trying to join kill parties ever since. Joined two and still haven't seen a kill, regardless of being very consistent myself. I've wiped the raid once in days of trying and it was because the group stacked differently. Been adjusting to different strategies, different mindsets, different people and I still have no kill and I am very capable of getting it. It just brings me down in this game.

Edited it since the link doesn't work for me. I thought it may not work for others

Hellluuuuuu

Ouch. I just typed like a loooong reply, and lost it to an accidently keystroke. Short version, i dont feel like doing that again.
Deathgiver, this whole thing started with you making "crazy assumptions" about me. First, I didnt say anything controversial in the post you quoted. The MTs main job in an alliance raid is to maintain aggro? True. You need to be aware of enmity resets and react to them? True. Blaming someone elses gear for your shortcomings is stupid? Also true. Hell, even the joke i made about DPS constantly dying to easy to dodge AoEs was true. But me recognizing and acknowledging on the boards that a tank made a mistake doesnt make me "vitriolic". I dont call people out in game when they make mistakes(im anti-drama). Now if the tank(or healer, or whoever) is blaming someone else for their mistake i will correct them, but thats a seperate issue. If someone seems open to criticism ill offer advice if i have any. Hell, after a bad pull on a boss im the person typing "Are there any mechanics anyone needs help understanding?" So no, i really dont think im the one scaring away all the would-be tanks.
Zeldert: Am i reading that picture right? Is that 3 dead alliances at the final fight in LotA getting the fight reward(presumably him dying to a DoT/whatever just as ancient flare went off)? Impressive.
