Before RDM was released I kinda fancied the idea of a Mirror using Bluemage, holding it similar to an AST holding their globe or larger more ornate mirrors that could also be shields doubling as their weapon.
They would learn their magic by watching it through the mirror.
The best scene I could think of was their LB3. It would be a giant AOE surrounding the caster. It would be called "Descent into Madness" A Glyph in monster blood would be drawn beneath you. A Giant mirror on top of the arena. A huge fiend's head would pass through the mirror and as it does you drop to your knees as if bearing an enormous weight. Confusion and pain turn to laughter as bend backwards on your knees, your back slowly contorting to the ground. Snap. Mirror shatters. Fragments everywhere and the monster breathes a quick arena consuming blast of fire. Boom.
Lol. Know Id probably settle with a mace to compliment MNK or a Dual wielding schmitar wielder. Its gonna be a tank guys.
Maybe change them up and have them use 2 throwing axes or 2 sickles for weapons.
honestly I really don't mind the idea of Gunblade wielding Blue mage, But the way people reason it is that they focus way too hard on the BLUE part of Blue mage more than the MAGE, I'm sure If Ceruleum was Red, people would have wanted Red mage to be a Gunblade wielder.
Personally, If Blue is a tank I'm in favor of a Morning Star/Long mace or War Hammer because it would allow Blue Mage to look the part of a Caster tank (also I just really want a Hammer or Mace)
If a DPS I'd actually like for Blue mage to have some kind of Melee weapon to differentiate itself more from the other casters, Though I'm not so sure about Scimitars since I think lots of NPC GLDs ingame already use scimitar weapons, but I guess SE can always change them
Just putting my 2 cents in this coin operated opinion machine
Blue mages in other Final Fantasy games used swords.

Blue Mage was introduced first in 5 and they can use swords. Scimitars and sabers are techincally swords.
They also could use other weapons in FFV, not just swords. Your argument (or at least the way you phrased your post) implies that Blue Mage only ever just wielded swords (which was something someone tried to do earlier in this thread) and others are just stating that is not the case at all.
Summoners weren't introduced into the series (to my understanding) "wielding" grimoires either. Bards weren't commonly associated with wielding bows.
"Technically" DRKs, RDMs, SAMs and PLDs all wield swords but the type of sword and shape varies. I do concede though that scimitars and sabers can be too visually similar to PLD's main arm (a handful of their weapons already look like scimitars) so I would think the devs would opt out designing a new job with a weapon-type that's already represented. So unless it's an easily distinguishable new type of "sword," I don't see that as a weapon for a new anything.

I did a little lore digging, and Blue Mage in 11 was literally a monster job, you were experimented on and had body modifications made to you in order for you to be a blue mage, the job itself essentially made you into a monster who could now absorb the essence of other monsters into itself in order to utilize their powers. Since 14 is pretty much the future of 11 and possibly several other games, it would stand the reason that if Blue Mage did reappear it might be linked to its ff 11 past, but people keep acting like it's just going to be a mage who put on a blue cape and was like, "Ah ha, I am Blue Mage. RAWWR!" After the law dig, I definitely want them to have claws and fangs as weapons. lol.
