That is the impression I had too. Many of the questions were more of what type of stuff would you buy in the cash shop if we decide to put more stuff there. It also seemed to be trying to find out what would get you to download more SE games. One thing I didn't like was how FF XIV was handled under the overall Final Fantasy banner when it isn't really the same as the rest of the series. If they wanted to group it I think pairing it with Tomb Raider online would have been better and provided better info between Japanese and American style MMO's.

If they do make another mmorpg. Hope it's based off of Star Ocean or Chrono Trigger. Just for something new.

My suggestion was pretty simple. Once they launch the new FF MMO, instead of just individual subs for each of their online games, have the option for a monthly fee for all of them as well.

Also, stop with the remakes. Remasters are ok but remakes are basically a new game its pointless and a waste of assets and time to tell the same story again.
I agree with everything Xaventh said, specially about remakes...I would prefer FFXVI to FFVII remake.

I would rather see XIV last 20 or 30 years and let the other FF be single player.

Remasters and Remakes are essentially the same thing.

What people want in principle is the same experience on current hardware for most games. The art can be exactly the same, the translation can be polished up, the music can have the option for the original track as it was in the game or as it was composed, or an alternative track set.

Or the art can be polished up as well (see Cave Story+ as a good example of a game that lets you use the original art or the improved art. Several SCUMM engine games were updated this way by switching out the original art and interface with the modern one.)

A Remaster is a remake where they try to squeeze additional fidelity out of existing game assets, which is something you can do with 3D games, but not 2D games. So most PSX/PS2 era games can be remastered by remaking the game engine and using the same models with the original textures created, rather than the PSX/PS2 textures. Remastering of anime/cartoons, film and audio recordings is often possible simply because the original recording medium actually had additional resolution. Especially with film since a 35mm film negative is actually around 21 megapixels if scanned frame by frame.

A straight-up remake, is where they throw away the original thing and make something in the same spirit of the original, and usually fail. You often see this when a film adaption is made of a novel or comic. "The book was better" so to speak. In the context of a video game, a video game can be extended in ways that you can not with a film.

IMO, the reason they decided to remake FF7 is because it's the game with the most embarrassing visuals for the hardware it was on (considering they produced a PSP and PS2 spinoff, and a movie,) and the one that was the most popular with the generation who grew up with the PSX. Adjusted for inflation it's the 5th most expensive video game ever produced and held that title for 7 years before Halo 2 beat it. The FF7 remake has now beat Duke Nukem Forever (12 years) as Vaporware ever since the 2005 E3 PS3 intro remake.

Star Ocean is def one that I really, really want! Especially since it looks like we'll never get Phantasy Star Online here

I say this as an old-school MMO player - I want them to succeed but I wonder if there are the numbers anymore or if the entire concept is even attractive to the newer generation of gamers.
I'd say MMOs are actually more popular than ever, but there are so many of them these days - all competing for the same players - that each MMO has difficulty getting enough players to be profitable.
The added competition from other online games of various sorts do not exactly help either.

I've already invested 5 years of play time into this game if they suddenly released a new MMO I will not be that invested into it because I've dedicated half a decade to this one already and see no point in moving on to another game just to start over.

Yes pleaaaase. OMG, the remake was amazing. It was wonderful actually getting full translations of the story rather than the hodgepodge that existed in the past due to character limits. As much as people complained about the remake, it stayed faithful and fixed some very exploitative things and provided other quality of life changes. I know I was also hoping that they remake might help SE decide on working on another Seiken Densetsu title, or in the very least, officially release an English version of 3.

Also, I'd not say MMOs are dying, but there is definitely an over-saturation of them. Many MMOs have come out, some hardly advertised or barely launched, before failing. The main elephant in the room is that quite a few MMOs are shifting their platform to mobile. TONS of "mobile MMOs" are coming out soon.

The survey also mentioned Chrono Trigger, which is very suspicious because none of SE's old IPs are mentioned (Mana, Parasite Eve, Brave Fencer). The fact that CT was namedropped in the survey gives me hope for a sequel...especially since Setsuna did pretty well.
