Higher resolutions have no benefit towards performance.

Ps4 to ps4 pro is a massive improvement in performance. It's absolute nonsense to claim otherwise or even downplay it. It's night and day. I went from slideshows in cities and any intensive content esp. 24m, to being able to play smoothly no matter what. I can turn player nameplates on without fps coming to a shuddering halt, I can turn other player effects on and see the game as it is meant to be seen.

I cannot do that on the base ps4. It throws the games into the teens too regularly, it feels horrible and plays horribly.

Can the game be played fine with a ps4? Sure. It can also run on a toaster but that doesn't mean it will be pleasant or enjoyable and that's the goddamn point.

To make as few concessions as possible while maintaining smooth performance.

Switch isn't gonna happen. We don't need new dead weight.

from the sounds of it, it might happen. It wont matter what any of us say about it. this is SE we're talking about. if they want it bad enough they will push Yoshida and crew into making it. I just hope if that is the way it goes we get a decent stress tested version of the game and not some crappy version that isn't tweaked for the system.

also. you might want to keep in mind that the only reason we got ARR/HW on the PS3 in the first place was because of a promise made that FFXIV would be on it, there is no way the PS3 could even dream of running XIV 1.0 since the game was causing PCs far more capable than it to choke. otherwise it would not have happened at all due to how late in the lifespan of the system we were already in.

In disregard towards the Switch's hardware limitations and potential capacity to even run XIV at optimal or even the most mediocre of settings, I simply don't think it's going to happen or it'll be very unlikely when you look at the Switch's main controller and its functions. Yes, one could argue that the pro controller could work, but who on earth is going to drop $80 on a Switch Pro controller to play XIV...that's not to also mention how your basic rotation would even work well on a basic switch controller in the first place because they can't assume that everyone would willingly spend $80 or even already have a pro controller.

Unless they're going to start selling XIV for the Switch with the $80 controller attached to it as an incentive perk.

This will be the strangest thing to play XIV with, I'm just saying.

Sure, you turn down effects, but that only really matters in 24 mans and hunts. Not once did I ever have to turn down my own party effects or enemy effects. I still turn those down on PC because it looks stupid with everything going off. SE deliberately limited the number of players on screen at any time to help in this. Is my PC way better? Absolutely, but my experience on PS4 was never this bad, and I know dozens of other players on PS4 who would also disagree with you. The only concession I'll give you is that hunts could get a little messy.

Not even remotely an exaggeration. Those are the frame rate numbers whether you accept them or not.
The ps4 pro is an immense improvement in performance over the ps4. This isn't up for debate.

The argument of "but it turns on and that's good enough for me" is nonsensical. The game bottoms out hard on ps4 in a number of places, just because you don't give a crap about it doesn't make it any less true.

I think most people who want it for the switch will play with the joycons attached to the switch itself and use it portable. however you do bring up a good point. personally I think if I were to get the switch I would rather have one of these

they cost less and I guarantee they give at least the same performance as the switch pro controller. and they are bluetooth compatible with the switch.
to be honest I'm considering getting one of these anyway for some of my games on my PC

I play on the PS4 and it runs everything but hunts/world fates completely fine. Hunts sometimes take a little while to load if there are too many people around. So I've got no idea what you are going on about.

You're right that the PS4 Pro is better, no one disputed that. What myself and Jamesoakes said is that the PS4 is nowhere near as bad as you seem to believe. I've never seen "slideshows" or anything that wasn't completely tolerable. The Ps4 Pro is still only running at 30 fps.

It wouldn't work. Even if there was a switch pro. It would be a major downgrade and by 6.0 we will most likely be on the next generation consoles. Makes no sense to go backwards in 5.0

Categorically false. I'm sorry but you really need to stop speaking about something you know nothing about.
