Honestly the fact the first gunshot came out of no where was part of the shock of the scene. As for disarming and restraining him, we probably could have but it would still be attacking an emissary who was breaking no law and while he would have certainly lost Asahi was far from helpless or untrained and it would have probably required us beating him down to restrain him. Hell, just trying to assault him would make it look like we were intentionally protecting someone guilty of summoning an Eikon and he could use that to cast doubt on our intentions and credibility.

There are times where you cant solve things by just being stronger. Hell, Yotsuyu was almost certainly on borrowed time anyway by the sounds of it. There wasn't a happy ending there. Asahi planned his trap well, much like Teleji and ironically got bitten for hit too.

their is one scene where our WoL does a thing

In the new raid quest line leading up the the raid, we actively save Alva from getting shot, if I recall its implied (not shown) we somehow knock the gun out of Ba'Gamnan's hands as he shoots, causing the shot to miss its mark

I actually quite like the way the WoL doesn't get too involved with stuff. If I had a choice, I'd likely go for a neutral route anyway.

That said, choice is always a good thing and would allow a more personalised experience. As some have pointed out though it would be difficult to balance in a way that allowed the story to progress in the same way for every player.

I think the problem with the WoL acting in a certain kind of way in these cutscenes is that this would go against the character for a lot of people. But this brings the problem that our character also often just stands around and do nothing. They cant really win with that. So what I would like is more options for our character to say or even a handful of emotes that we can choose from. So for example last patch instead of looking shocked or angry at Asahi we could have chosen an emote that let them smirk. This would not change much in the big cutscenes but would make the smaller ones a bit more lively.

The problem with our character standing by and doing nothing while he shots her: This is again because of a difference in characters. I dont like Yotsuyu and even though I would never go and shoot at her like that while she is already dieing I can see that the WoL does not feel the need to step into this. (And maybe even taking a bullet and being injured) Or the WoL was too shocked at such a behavior. But I can understand that this would feel off if you want her to survive because you started to like Tsuyu and find her really tragic.

I believe that they should just write situations where our character simply has no other chance to react differently. (I kinda have the same problem with other scenes in HW for example) He could have hit us with something that could have made us not be able to move. Or we could just have tried to walk away because we thought that she was death and suddenly he is here and we are too far away from it, or maybe she lands a bit away from us and we cant reach her fast enough.

But Asahi himself stated that the contract between them and thus the pease was gone because Doma did not stop a summoning so since this was already out of the window, why give him a free pass? (And I am quite sure that Maxima would not have done a thing if we had been the one to kill him, since he knew that Asahi was bad)

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

While normally I'm fine with how cutscenes play out, this patch had me a bit up in arms as to how dumb and unresponsive the Warrior of Light can be (both in and out of cutscenes).

Yotsuyu was obviously going to Namai to get Gosetsu the persimmon he said he wanted. Why do we need to hunt across the Yanxia countryside for her, and why do we just stand there while she approaches the townsfolk instead of doing something?!

Considering his wording and handing the mirror to Yotsuyu, it's very easy to conclude that Asahi is goading her into summoning a primal and that the crates he's lugging with him everywhere are crystals for that express purpose. When she's standing up on the platform making her grandiose proclamations and stuff, why don't we try to stop her?! Yotsuyu's heart clearly wasn't all the way in it; why don't we call her out on that?!

Then Asahi shoots her after she's defeated as Tsukuyomi. First shot, OK, we weren't expecting it. Second and third, and then kicking, stomping on, insulting, and degrading her out of envy and spite? There was no need for that; fatigued or not, diplomatic immunity or not, I can't help but feel like we should have been given an option to try protecting her or at least call Asahi out on being so pathetic and monstrous. Even if we failed (i.e. get shot in the shoulder) I seriously felt like the Warrior of Light shouldn't have just let him have his way. A glower and curled fist don't really cut it. At least Yotsuyu got the last laugh.

(You could even make a case for protecting Asahi from Yotsuyu, since she was a primal and all. On paper, anyway; the spirit is clearly the other way around, but clearly he needed it.)

i think this could be it too, there are some people who love rolaplaying as "dumb" or "ignorant" or "i dont care" adventurer and judging by some of the text choice we got, it kind of shown that we can make our adventurer to be a bit "egoistic" if we want too. i think SE just try to make our adventurer as neutral (good) as they get, and animation cost extra money so.... yeah

If people want to role-play, they should do so within the confines of their own head-canon. I have a number of characters myself and none of them are the 'Warrior of Light' or involved directly with the MSQ's. The one I play at present is a Hingan seeking to forge trade deals with Hydaelyn's various nations to strengthen his homeland's dominance. Another character of mine is a world weary Garlean Pureblood who wants his people to not have to take up the burden of dealing with Eikons so that he can focus on protecting his family and comrades in arms.

The MSQ's are fairly 'on rails' yet it works out for the best given that not every point of view or potential personality could be accounted for.

I was somewhat annoyed with the WoL actions as well. While I don't think outright attacking him was needed I do think trying to stop or interceed was warranted. Heck I'm a Paladin. In that moment I wanted to spin around and just raise shield to protect tsuyu. Instead I just kinda lazily stood to the side with a slightly annoyed look on my face while he pumped some more bullets into her.

I share the same sentiment when it comes to the WoL this patch. I can understand Role-playing but when it comes to Role-playing I would generally try to keep that out of the MSQ. I wouldn't mind if the MSQ had a certain persona...sure it would go against people's roleplay but I would be fine with it because this is something just for the MSQ and if it means the WoL does more in the cutscenes I'm fine with that. Anything outside of that you can do your own thing when it comes to character roleplay.

This may not exactly be true. While Yotsuyu is of course, a Doman, per prior agreement she is no longer considered a Doman citizen by the time she recovered her memory hence responsibilities of her actions should fall under Garlemald i.e Asahi at the time. Asahi however deflected any responsibility and claimed the blame should fall under Doma by playing "Doman woman" card. The bridges weren't burned because of Yotsuyu's action but because Asahi declared it thus. That's why Maxima who was also aware of the agreement and being second in command can nullify Asahi's claim; it was never valid to begin with.

As for original topic, I personally find it fine for WoL to actually think before they act. It means they aren't uncivilized savage like some Garlean propaganda. Even if Asahi deserved every bit of beatdown, he still was an ambassador, protected by special rights and such. Even without his false claim, attacking him would give more harm than good; our own satisfaction to Doma's safety. It's good Yotsuyu was the one who put him down since she was no longer considered Doman, not to mention giving her final closure.
