I ran leveling roulette a few days ago and got Qarn (no, it wasn't Hard Qarn either). Not so bad, right? The tank was gladiator.

I think you all can figure out what happened the rest of the long way towards the final boss.

The samurai and astrologian with me made it bearable and fun at the very least.

Hmm...while that does make a run like Qarn a bit harder, I have a question. Was the GLD a sprout? If so, did anybody try to ask him if they knew they could pick up their job at 30 and then get their tank stance to make holding aggro easier? If the answer to the second question was no, then perhaps somebody should have told them they could get their job. It's been a while since I did PLD quests, but some of the starting locations from classes to jobs are not very intuitive and its possible that they may not have tried looking it up, or nobody's really pointed it out to them up to this point. (though that's hard to believe given how Brayflox is)

We all tried to get them to speak up and ask if he/she knew that he/she could become a paladin at level 30 and if he/she was unsure about anything else regarding the game, but they wouldn't speak a single word.He/She did have a sprout icon, unfortunately though, he/she refused to talk in party chat for some reason and kept sprinting on ahead each time getting themself halfway killed in the process since he/she didn't have the extra defenses that a paladin might have against those mobs. We asked them to at least use Flash a bit more often, but he/she neglected to follow up on that. It didn't help the he/she wasn't properly geared either. The tank was from Siren, so an NA server, I can't imagine that language would have been a barrier or issue.

It's one thing to be new and make a mistake, we've all done it once or twice before, maybe even more, it's another thing to just...be silent and not acknowledge any of the people that are trying to help you and instead, sort of hinder their dungeon run as much as you're hindering theirs.

It was just an odd thing to see and like I had said earlier, the other two team members made it bearable and we're just as chatty and understanding at the very least. I was on a ninja, the best AoE I had at the time was Katon since Death Blossom doesn't come until 42.

That makes me think - if you're overleveled as a tank, it's quite possible to have unlocked Qarn at story level ~25 when you go to Little Ala Mhigo, and before you've done either of those story dungeons. It could be the first dungeon they've been in since Toto-Rak.

Yea, it made me wonder too how they ever got up to 35 without Shield Oath. I don't remember the name outright since it was quite a few days ago and the contact list only allows up to 50 players, but I definitely remember that he/she was from Siren. We were all actually level sycned too...so I believe he/she was waaaaay over level 35, which is actually kind of scarier to imagine that the person might have gone through other dungeons as just a gladiator.

Still, I made two new friends from Faerie that evening, so still a win/win in my book even if the run was a bit tedious and painful.

It's been a while, but aren't you required to go through Haukke and Brayflox as part of the MSQ? They aren't optional like Wanderer's Palace, are they (to be honest, I'm not even sure if Wanderer's is optional either).

I can't say much myself...I once ran Doma Castle with an assortment of Shisui and Yanxian right side pieces, and Augmented Shire on my left side for WAR. Hoo boy, that was a bad run. Fortunately, the party was understanding that this was the 3rd tank job I was leveling, and it had been months since I bothered to take a tank through the leveling process. Somehow did not wipe on that run. I wonder if it's possible that they did have the job, but didn't equip the soulstone. Wishful thinking.

It's been a while, but aren't you required to go through Haukke and Brayflox as part of the MSQ? They aren't optional like Wanderer's Palace, are they (to be honest, I'm not even sure if Wanderer's is optional either).

Haukke and Brayflox are indeed part of the MSQ, but Qarn is not - it's a "blue quest" to unlock it, and you can accept it when your character reaches class-level 32, regardless of where you are in the story. Likewise for Cutter's Cry, Dzemael Darkhold, Aurum Vale and Wanderer's Palace - my own alt character is overleveled and picked up those quests early, though in my case I know not to actually unlock the dungeons until I've got the equipment to survive it.


(Also, I would say Qarn is the last dungeon where it's understandable that a player might not have started their job quests yet. Particularly as it's the endpoint of the free trial - at that point I didn't want to take on new questlines until I'd got the full game. Maybe there should have been something in the MSQ to nudge you towards taking it up - Y'shtola could tell you "Titan's going to be dangerous, maybe you should talk to your guildmaster about some extra training"....)

They're not optional, but I don't think there's anything preventing you from unlocking the optional Qarn first if you've managed to reach 35 before completing them.

Actually Quan(NM) is require for MSQ too. (even it was blue icon and can be unlocked before the quest line)
The true horror story is what if s/he can go that far without soulstone equipped….
