You've only been playing since April, so with all due respect I don't think you're in much of a position to criticise players who have been playing for far longer than you have and who have seen the slippery slope grow broader and longer over time.Oh noooooo! a completely optional thing to spend money on that *barely* gives you an edge only due to the fact it's not convenient to get on and do it yourself instead!?
WHELP! That's the end of FF14 right there!.... >_>
You people need to stop complaining, it will in no way effect what you do or how you play. Nor is it going to somehow leave you worse off. This is just mass hysteria, nothing more.
While a bit over the top at times, I think that the conversation being had is very important and worthwhile. There's no reason for you to denigrate people over it.Oh noooooo! a completely optional thing to spend money on that *barely* gives you an edge only due to the fact it's not convenient to get on and do it yourself instead!?

Right. This isn't a matter of anyone freaking out over one thing. And it's true... nothing in the cash shop (or in this upcoming app) matters in terms of progression or clearing raids. While a bit over the top at times, I think that the conversation being had is very important and worthwhile. There's no reason for you to denigrate people over it.
To believe that's the issue, though, is to completely miss the point.
FFXIV is a game with a large subscriber base and a successful cash shop. It's also a game that -- while polished and often fun to play -- has really failed to IMPROVE at the same rate as other MMOs. (I'm talking about the game post 1.x, because 1.x was a completely different game.)
It's concerning to see the game stagnate while the developers continue focusing on cash shop elements.
It's not any one thing that could kill this game -- it's more likely to be death by a thousand paper cuts.
So what? I don't need to have played a long time to know that this in no way hurts your experience. Hell even someone that doesn't play the game can see that. When it actually hurts you and others. THEN there is room to complain about it. And the same goes for the Mogstation which I also see people complaining about and really any other stuff you need to pay for. All of it does not help you in game.
Maybe people are just annoyed that something like that exist even in a sub game? Or maybe that with a high chance they used the sub money from all of us to do this? And maybe because they went around and said that inventory increases are a problem and never gave us another free retainer but added a paid one here, double the saddlebags and put the retainer to retainer stuff behind it too?Oh noooooo! a completely optional thing to spend money on that *barely* gives you an edge only due to the fact it's not convenient to get on and do it yourself instead!?

If they allow unlimited MB changes with the mog coins this will hurt all of those players that are taking part in the MB war that is already hard thanks to bot..So what? This is also hurting all those people that have inventory space problems (with or without paid retainers) and that are losing out of the extra saddlebags.
This is hurting all of those that have waited for a retainer to retainer system for a while and now have to pay for this.
And this might even hurt you in the future because they are already planning more features for the mog coins.
(And all the time that they used for this app could have been used on the game itself..so hurting it here too)

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
In a sense it does though - we've been told that the money from the mogstation and such optional items would be used to improve upon the game.
In realtiy though we're not seeing much of that - and here it does matter how long you've played because you dont really notice that.
Those of us who have been playing for years and staying loyal to the game do though. We're seeing less dungeons, less content overall, quality of life improvments such as the glamour dresser taking an extremly long time to finally show up, content gets delayed again and again (Eureka) - all of that isnt as noticeable to someone who just started the game because you've still got an aweful backload of stuff to go through from 4 years worth of patches, while we did those when it was relevant.
And we've been told that they're lacking the budget for that and the funding for this, while we're seeing less content and more pay options instead...
Not improving upon the game when they said they'd use the money for that is ultimately hurting our experience of the game, because the game is stagnating.
This all makes people feel as if SE is melking them for more and more dollars that are spend on FFXV, FFVII and KH3 (or whatever else) instead of going back into FFXIV.
Talking about this game dying is obviously always silly - there have been talks like that for ages and as we can all see the game is still alive. So yeah, thats exaggarting.
But SE is clearly seeing how far they can go, how much money they can get out of our pockets, how far they can push.
So... whats the point when you start pushing back? Only when they lock the next dungeon behind an additional paywall?
Why wait til it actually really does hurt is to tell them that all those microtransactions arent okay if we dont actually get to see improvments to the game for them?

Well, there's over two hundred 'likes' for the first post in this thread. Here's hoping we'll get an official response soon - especially since a glamour related thread with a handful of pages/likes got one recently.
Despite the high amount of likes, I'll be surprised if we receive an official response. They want this to succeed badly and even acknowledging negative feedback on this could invite 'problems.' This is the kind of thing that requires response from Yoshi directly. Unfortunately, there are no Fan Festivals upcoming, so it's hard to get a direct question to him unfiltered. It's a waiting game now, and we may be waiting a while.

I'm amazed at the number of people who are happy with over half the storage in-game (when the app releases) being locked behind a paywall. I am also amazed at how many people don't see potential problems with players being able to buy tokens that will let them make more transactions than people on the Free or Premium sub alone. Crafting and the MB is a niche interest (around 25% of players I think) but the devs clearly said they are going to make it possible to buy more things with Moogle Coins in the future.
Pay for the game - Pay the sub - Pay for extra characters - Pay for extra storage - Pay for the Premium App - Pay for Moogle Coins
The first 3 I've no problem with. Storage I'd only be happy with paying for extra if we had adequate storage in-game. The Premium App and the Moogle Coins on top of everything else are taking FFXIV too close to FtP financing models for me.
