Less tale of woe (well kind of woe for me)/joy, more apologetic.

Decided to work on my main for the first time in forever, namely trying to get tomestones for gearing and was doing Leveling on WHM (after doing Expert and 70 on AST), got Doma Castle.

DPS dc'd from the start due to the dreaded DirectX crash, but came back and we started off. Things were going fine despite me getting some lag spikes. Then we get to the last pull before the second boss, and lag hits again. I'm standing there, just spamming Cures since I figure it'll all pass. Only to get "Connection to the server has been lost." I try logging back in, but it just freezes at the menu, so I tab out to look: net connection is fine. For about a minute or so, then it finally showed no connection.

To keep this short- To those that had the WHM who just up and dc'd in Doma Castle: I am so sorry. Net outage happened in my area, but I hope you guys got a fast replacement and everything else went smoothly from there!

(snip) I figured out the issue. I'm only level 10 outside and there for the only slot on my role actions that's unlocked is level 8. Protect and esuna are level 16 and 20. And those slots which are leveled locked are still locked since I'm only level 10 outside. I knew I wasn't crazy.

It's weird, but yes, you have to be the appropriate level for a role action outside of PotD to use it inside PotD. Had someone ask for a sc raise the other day when 2 cnjs were in the group (cnj=unlikely to have SC).

For all the advantages of the role actions system, I still miss the old cross-class system.

Thanks to my ISP being totally not worth what I pay them, I got to experience the joys of healing with constant stutters lasting anywhere from 10-20 seconds. Blindly spamming heals and praying they go through lmao

Luckily it was with friends so the stress was slightly mitigated. Slightly.

After a long time, my friends and I finally managed to get a Rabanstre run in again - one of the friends is a real sucker for terrible Rabanstre runs and since some of us had it in their Khloe books, we decided to give it a go!

Waiting times were horrible and the overall run kinda... disappointing, specially for our friend who loves the terrible ones. No horrible wipes, ever boss died kinda quickly, no one was constantly dead on Hashmalim, no room-wide charge at Rofocale... all in all a pretty boring run. The most eventful thing that happend was that our scholar disconnected and got replaced by an ast who, to make matters worse, even picked the right stance to be in (noct oppossed to our whm-friend). They were even feeding me MP-cards on my bard while I was singing foes!

So yeah, there we are with this pretty boring, bland run, reaching the final boss when the RDM suddenly says "I'm too tired" in chat - they had died a couple of times, nothing big, nothing major or really worth mentioning and it was kinda late.
But after saying that, they really followed through and... just left. We were a little irritated - while we were getting the whole "being tired"-thing it would have literally been like 10 more minutes max, so the drop out came as a surprise...
At least thats making up a tiny bit for all the horror stories we could have had, but didnt get.

A good Rab story.

The good Rabanastre runs have been pleasant but not entirely unexpected lately.

Though I didn't play during HW I did hear that the token from the Weeping City had to be combined with a token from Void Ark in order to purchase armor/accessory upgrade items. This would mean in 4.3 when we get Ridoranna we will either need a surplus of Rabanastran coins or need to run a Rab every time we want to exchange a coin. I know I've personally stockpiled around 10, so have a few of my friends, so I think if some other people are realizing this too you're probably getting more people choosing it intentionally and less Alliance DR participants.

Did a Trial roulette with an FC member to help him cap tomes last night. Not much of a story just a question - does everyone else find Byakko normal to be harder than EX? I sure have.

Okay, it's been a few days, I think I've calmed down enough to talk about it now.

Sastasha Normal, I was kicking around on one of my alts, one that has only a 60 DRG and a 50-ish SCH, thought I'd get her a unicorn mount, so I queue up as CNJ. Get a 33 WAR, sprout ACN, sprout LNC. Very clean run. We're at the last two trash packs of three before the last boss. We're working on one pack, the other pack was untouched.

Suddenly I see that second pack come to life, one red and two orange, and they come right over and give the ACN a couple of good whacks, one of them goes flying because Carby's on sic, but no harm done, I heal them up, everything's fine. WAR doesn't take them right away, but does a wave emote, I think? So, fair enough, a bit of silliness followed by more silly, that's fine.

I was not prepared for what happened next. (Green = my alt, Red = WAR, Orange = LNC)

At this point I'm SHAKING (hey, I'm a good girl from a quiet home, I'm not used to being yelled at, but I'm getting better at standing my ground, as you can see. In the olden days of FFXI, I would've just logged off from the Dunes and cried) but I exit and look at my contact list...hey, that WAR is on the same server as my alt that just got a strip torn off her for no reason. So I sent him a (very polite!) tell explaining how I thought it was the Arcanist that was at fault, but also that, if I did happen to hit something I shouldn't have, I was very sorry and it was an honest accident. I wished him well, waited about five seconds, did not receive a reply, and hastily logged off for fear of whatever miserable retribution might have followed.

But real talk, if you're in blinding pain, have been so for FOURTEEN HOURS, and (based on the time of day and assuming their location to be NA) have had not one wink of sleep the previous night...is playing a co-op video game really the thing you should be doing? I'm not so sure it is. I probably should have reported him, but...now, honestly, I feel bad for him.

He proudly declares "I won't give up, no matter what." The other DPS leaves. I wish him luck before following suit, because no.

I mean, you have to admire his tenacity, I guess.

This isn't a slight against you, because it's understandable when you feel there's just nothing more one can do regarding a terrible run, but I sincerely hope this guy got his clear and I always tend to root for players with this not-giving-up attitude. Hopefully he learned some things during the run to help him in the future!

You're not the only one tbh. I got Byakko normal yesterday with my bf for trial roulette and since I'm so used to running EX trying to get more of the weps and potentially a dog, I really noticed that normal trials in general seem to be harder than EX trials almost. I imagine part of it's we're all used to doing EX, and we want to muscle memory bc in the same zone, same music etc and then suddenly a "woah! that's not what i expected!" but then I really do think that Normal trials feel less structured than EX as well.

First off: Expert roulette. Considering I've only posted 2-3 days ago about Experts taking 30+ minutes, thankfully today i got a wonderful pt <3 Shoutout to the sam Renni R. and Yara S if you read the forums, I had a lot of fun :>
Then I go do 70 roulette still on bard. Annnd the other bard.... The tank wasn't doing mass pulls and thank g-d for that simply bc the other bard just.. didn't aoe. I got out my Magic Goggles and aside from noticing that actually he rarely used his songs until 20s into a pull, but whilst my TP was almost bottomed out during pulls, his was often still near full when the mobs all died. I was soooo salty bc really as a bard you just don't have an excuse when you have BOTH invigorate and Tactician and you're with another bard who also has tactician! I'm just glad the WHM was helping with Holys otherwise this really would have been another long run of AM... And the bard was also kitted out in left side Failnaught+1 and 350 anemos armour full of materia, and right side 340 allagan so he probably could do the same if not more dmg than me since whilst my left side is mostly 360 i still haven't upgraded my bard's weapon to the Byakko bow or the 360 wep. Also repeatedly overwrote my BV when it still had 10s on the timer. What a waste.

I also did trial roulette and it put me in Sophia normal. I was honest and said straight away I hadn't done it before - i just haven't had chance since i finished HW story about 3 days before SB dropped, and in between IRL work and trying to catch up with my bf I've not had time u.u I felt like a right ninny because whilst she was tipping the scales I slid through the ice puddle twice. I'm so sorry @ my group, i know i wasn't the only new person but wow I was dumb ._.

Do I have a story for you all!

Qued for expert as WHM. Got a PLD, RDM, and forgot the other DPS, but I think it was a melee. Anyway, people say hello and the run goes smoothly....until after the first boss. A healer belt dropped, and I know I needed to gear my retainer with better stuff, so I Needed on it. A couple seconds after I got it, the RDM starts saying I'm rude for needing on gear i didn't really 'need'. i told them that I needed it for my retainer, but he kept bitching at me the whole run. He was insisting I was a rude person irl and ingame, because of...Needing on an item? He didn't even say he needed healer gear at all before I rolled. He had the chance to do as we entered the dungeon. i could have passed on it, but no, I wouldn't because of how he was acting toward me. I needed on all the healer gear just to spite him, because I was irritated.

I didn't do anything wrong did I? :v
