I know, right? I had to take a screenshot of his response because I don't frequent 4chan and this level of "communication" is mind-boggling to me. I mean...where is this supposed "name" that i used to insult him?

Staying on topic: like I said in my first reply, I never had any trouble getting into JP grind parties. I never needed to respond in Japanese. Auto-translation function is there for a reason. Therefore, I use it. And...I'm nice.

    Right?

Just in case this thread goes "that way," descriptor for natives in the East is not the same as the one for rugs.

To DNO: You are such a close minded !@#!@# that I have no idea where to start. First and foremost, no one is making you learn JP.

Why do you have a problem with them playing in their own time and you playing on yours?
Splitting servers by region won't change the number of English parties you get at any given time. If it accomplishes anything, what you will get is...

    1) the OVERALL total number of parties will drop sharply
    2) Servers are dead at night.

*China's servers are on their own because they require modifications done to the game to suit the government's censorship laws.

First, I'd like to say that i never had a "JP only" thrown at me. Maybe because I can speak a little Japanese and use a kanji parser to help me if i can't read something. All the people who reference that phrase start bringing examples from FFXI halfway through the thread. You are forgetting that FFXI's situation was different from FFXIV. Here, we started together, which means the JP players already knew they wouldn't be among themselves in this game, which also means that most "JP only" people probably didn't even start playing.

The auto-translator is sometimes doesn't fully allow to convey what you are trying to say. That's why many people just don't use it, and it's not only the Japanese players I'm talking about, I've seen enough English-speaking people not using it, too. I guess for some people it just sticks out like a sore thumb.

Also, those who don't want to learn Japanese shouldn't expect them to learn English. It's a language just like any other, the fact it happens to be a "world's language" doesn't matter, there are enough people who can't learn languages even if their life depended on it.

People really should stop seeing conspiracies behind every corner. But I guess some just can't.

Sorry if i see a problem with that.
You're wrong. I know very little Japanese, yet 99% of the time when I try to communicate on a basic level, they're usually flattered that I'm putting forth the effort. I have zero problems partying with Japanese players. When I'm playing in the early AMs, it's usually a Japanese party that I join to grind.

If you choose to change your mind and put forth a more positive attitude, here's a few polite phrases:
    1. よろしくです~ (yoroshiku desu~) Nice to meet you (Literally: Please treat me well)
    2. ありがとう~/どもありがとうございます~ (arigatou~/domo arigatou gozaimasu~) Thank you / Thank you very much (respectful, polite)
    3. ごめんなさい (gomen nasai) Sorry
    4. じゃまた (ja mata) See you later
    5. またよろしくです~ (mata yoroshiku desu~) It was nice meeting you again
    6. 私はアメリカ人です、でも日本語がすこしわかります (watashi wa amerikajin desu, demo nihongo ga sukoshi wakarimasu) I'm American, but I can understand a little Japanese.

Someone buying a product in America knowing before hand that it's from a Japan based company with international servers with Japanese players... would think about it.
I could argue that point as I, and even one or two others in this thread have attest or can attest into be let into one of these "JP Only" parties, but I don't really want to get too deep into this, if only because its nearly 3:30 a.m. and I'm studying for exams.

I get that your saying i knew what i was getting into. I did.. The only mmos i have ever played was ff11 and ff14. so i get it. I am ok with having "JP Only" cause in ff1 i just found another party.
You admit you know what you were getting into. Knowing of the international nature you have two options.

a.) Learn a few phrases to help bridge the gap if and where it can.

b.) Simply stick to playing with those who speak your own language.

There is no shame in either choice, and no one should harass you for choosing the former or the latter.

I am only debating that Jenn said "well learn JP then mab they will play with you"... my asnwer to that is a big phat NO. I pick JP or NA in my parties so why shouldnt they?
Am I correct in reading this statement that you choose both Japanese and Non-Japanese players in your party? If that's the case, who is to say the Japanese do not? Sure no one here can attest for the entire Japanese population to say that none of them do. We can only make assumptions. Having said that, I'd like to make an assumption of my own in regards to the "JP Only" phenomenon from what I have studied, am studying, and have heard from Japanese friends and Professors in my past year here.

For one, from what I've noticed there are a lot more older game players than you'd think. I say this if only for the many older people I see on the trains every day sporting their Nintendo DS's, PSP's, etc. and the bit of literature I've read regarding this, although the names of the sources escape me. Bearing in mind that the typical Japanese person (around age 25 and up) works long, strenuous hours, is forced to go to nomikais (drinking parties), and the occasional overtime, when they get home and plop down on the couch or computer chair, they're going to want to play with as little thinking as possible, and simply noting they'd prefer to party with people in their own language may not seem rude to them. I'm not Japanese so I can't tell you.

Another thought is simply the Japanese perception of the English language in general. Yes they are all required to learn Japanese in middle school. But because of the manner in which its taught, your typical Japanese person can perhaps read a bit of English but very rarely can speak it, as the never-ending advertisements or English Conversation Schools and training I see on a day to day basis can attest to. I've also been told by a Japanese professor that more often than not, Japanese people who avoid English speakers or act very apprehensively should they be forced to engage with one feel that if they can't speak English perfectly and fluently that they should avoid the situation for fear of embarrassment, etc.

Even with these two viewpoints regarding the "JP Only" phenomenon, this is my main point and I'd like to emphasize this:

Why are we making such a big deal out of this? There are Europeans who only play with Europeans, but I never seen threads of people complaining about "German Only" or "Spanish Only". Is it simply because we don't see their shouts in town? Or is it because they aren't as important when compared to the Japanese?

why does everyone make excuses for "JP only" JP players but when i say " i think if they are gonna do that then put them in their on server" i get slammed and get called names. You guys are really the JP b**** IMO lol.... they crap all over you and you say "ooo its ok they are cool" while they say "JP Only"......
First I'd just like to say, no need for vulgar name calling. Doesn't get us anywhere.

I can't apologize for anyone calling you names, but I don't think anyone has the right to belittle you for asking a question. As for answering it, I personally don't feel there's a need for a separation of servers, although others with my same viewpoint may be a bit more aggressive in getting the point across.

Those who mingle about in their own language are free to do so and have done so to this point. Those who like to mingle with speakers of other languages also have done so to this point. As others have mentioned before me, separating servers is only going to leave gaping holes of low population where its hard to get anything done, which while not hindering those who don't wish to mingle with other language speakers, will detract from those who do.

For example: A friend of mine (another American) was partying together with me and 6 other Japanese people, we played all night and come morning all the Japanese people were starting to get tired. But rather than calling it quits the party members were gradually replaced with Americans as time went on and we were able to keep going. Being confined to one region this wouldn't have been possible.

But alas, my post is long and its getting late. Hopefully things simmer down in here next time i see this thread.

    2) no (read above)

Also if we LOSE some JP players on a server did you ever stop to think that hmmm mab SE will replace the JP with English speakers from other servers?

Same amount of people dude. Just MUCH better if we are all speaking the same language

Just thought I'd fix this before I go to sleep.

    私はアメリカ人です。でも、日本語がすこしえあかります。 X
    私はアメリカ人です。でも、日本語がすこしわかります。 O

The romaji was right, but the hiragana was not.

I speak a bit of Japanese myself as I was station in Tokyo for a while. Can't read and write it though sadly. I dontmind learning the language if it helps me get into more parties. Though if jp only parties are deemed as ok then so should English only parties and English only servers as well as international servers. If a Japanese person needed a ride in my car to go to the same place I am going, I wouldn't tell him no because he doesn't speak English. For the ifrit battle I can see the language barrier being an issue but not when it comes to grinding parties.
