I’ve noticed that whenever I go healer and I DPS full-time while maintaining heals, I usually get 2+ commendations. If the tank is using proper cooldowns and stance swapping, I’ll comm them on my healer. I think the reason why a healer may get commendations overall is that a healer dps vs not dpsing at all is marginally a bigger difference than a dpsing tank vs a tank in tank stance.

I got more comms on my DRG than I ever did as healer or tank. In fact, probably a solid 90% of the comms I have came to me while playing DRG(halfway through HW I started leveling other stuff in earnest)

Someone has to be pretty obnoxious for me to not give them the commendation.
Same, for most 4-man content. For 8-man content, either comm the MT, OT, or one/other healers, depending on things.

Receipt, I get more 3+ comms as healer.

But typically, in 8-man and 24-man content, it just depends what order you were on the party list. If you were the MT or first healer on the list, that's probably why you get more comms, regardless of anything else. Another factor is how quickly people leave the instance. In POTD, typically people just exit the moment the boss is down, so no comms are given in most cases.

I don't understand. you only need 300 player comms to get mentor status. by the time I ran that many dungeons I had almost a thousand!

Personally, I already met the comm requirement long before the dungeon requirement when I was aiming for the mentor status, but I'd never straight up ask for comms.

Even if you enjoy helping others, I don't think there's any way to convey a desire for comms that isn't going to come across as selfish, since you don't need comms or the mentor status to help your fellow players. Even if your goal for mentor status is truly altruistic and motivated purely by the desire to help others, it's better to just tell the truth but not the whole truth and say you're just trying to help. ;p

I never comm people who beg for them.

If all other things are equal, as a tank I comm the healer, as a healer I comm the tank, as a dps I comm the other dps. Unless the player I would usually comm behaved or performed egregiously, in which case I'd comm who I thought was best.

You can bypass the dungeon requirement by running a low level (ifrit normal mode) in unsynch.

I main WHM and I'm also working towards the mentor status so I'm finally working on tank for the first time since this game released. I can say I definitely do not get as many coms as a tank vs when I heal. When I tank I average about 1 per dungeon. I keep aggro just fine and rotate through my cds even on trash so the healer doesn't have a hard time. When I do explain things to new people I might get 2-3 but that comes up fairly rarely. As a healer it is typical for me to get more than 1 per dungeon. I would say I'm a much better healer than tank but that's just because I've been doing it for so much longer. As a dps it seems to be fairly random.

In terms of how I com people... Usually it goes to the player that best handles all mechanics. Because as a healer I'm very aware of when you stood in that thing that you shouldn't have, when things aren't positioned properly and when the tank is just more of a sponge than usual even if I'm not healing. I'll also often prioritize a new player who listens to instructions and adequately learns the mechanics in a timely fashion. And if everyone does well it goes to the friendliest person which usually boils down to which person actually says hi back when I greet everyone at the beginning of the dungeon. :P

It's this one. That's the issue. People don't like it when people ask for comms.

I find the best way to go is to say hi, maybe make a bit of chat. Carry your own weight. If you see a new player notice, offer a couple of pointers about bosses when you get to them. If you wipe due to mechanics, ask if anyone would like explanations.

You can get a lot of comms that way, as you're being helpful without really pushing it on anyone.
