MRD tanking skills

I joined a pt as MRD lvl38 and asked to be a tank. I was horribale, my tanking was really bad. I thought "well since its my first time thats to be expected".

But then I discovered that I need alot of abilities and skills from other classes. After checking with ppl in my LS, they told me I need to get this and that from almost every class.

I really dont wanna lvl another class to thier 30s just to get an abilities (espacially not before patch 1.20 hits)

So, what are the "must have" skills I need to get to be a decent tank in parties? (not taking about end-fgame).?

Depends on what you were tanking, honestly. Were you AoE-burning mobs, or just taking one at a time? What exactly was the issue you were having with tanking? (example: holding threat? dying too quickly? etc.) What kind of gear do you have currently?

I am talking mainly about AoE tanking, lvl39 atm wich Steal Set.

My main problem was holding aggro.

Yes, you need to level sub classes. This was the same in FFXI.

It's not really the best time to worry about tanking sets since everything might be changing in 1-2 weeks.

I am talking mainly about AoE tanking, lvl39 atm wich Steal Set.

My main problem was holding aggro.

Run into mob, pop warmonger.

Use sentinel to mitigate damage.

Link mobs, as much as you can, use Second Wind II to claim orange mobs and generate hate.

Full Swing or Broad swing for Instant 3000 TP

Keen Flurry + Brandish Brandish

or

Brandish Circle Slash

Use Leg Sweep if you need to for the stun

Get stragglers with provoke or taunt.

Reduce mage hate in a pinch with accomplice.


Rank up till you get Storms Path, then use that instead.

Also, use a throwing axe to help pull from long distance.

Another fast way to pull is to just target a mob and then run through it. Your auto attack will hit it, even though it'll look like you hit the mob after you run through it. Just keep targeting the next mob and running through it.

Ok a long discusion started in my LS about the diffrence between Taunt/Provoke/Disorient. So are they really any diffrent?

I know that Warmonger is my AOE taunt, but what should I use when it comes to single target?

They are different but it doesn't matter. As a Marauder your main source of hate is doing massive damage in combination with using Defender (increased emnity when under steadfast stance). Warmonger and Taunt are just nicer because because they focus the mob's attention on you for a short period of time no matter how much hate you have, giving you time to generate more hate through damage.

The biggest question probably still is what the sistuation was that caused you to suck. I'm mostly guessing that you fought mobs that were too high, you weren't able to do decent damage (so no hate generation) and as a result the mob(s) ran to the healers (because you took a lot of damage yourself).
