I like Omega's story for itself. It expands on the origins of dragons as well as sheds some interesting lights on the Allag. though whether or not they could've invested the extra time coming up with new enemies for it is a different matter. I personally enjoy it.

I would have preferred if the new Deep Dungeon was for the relic... Floor 100-200 was the most fun I have in awhile in a piece of content.

Omega's story in itself is not that bad, but it's totally disjointed from the actual content you're running, which only make the fanservice more out of place. Omega could make you fight Ultimate version of Ifrit, Garuda, ec...that the story itself would still be the same. It's sad considering they did a good job incorporating Crystal Tower, The Warring Triad, and now Eureka, in the existing lore of XIV.

And what I fear the most if for the next stage of Omega using FFVII bosses...because VII is not overused enough, I guess...and, what could be even worse, is to have Sephiroth sooooo powerful that he would destroy Omega and take its place as the final raid boss.

My first impression of Eureka was it actually seemed like good investment. Nice environments, the big bustling areas of players, solo accessibility etc, though it was all a deception. Everything was interesting until after battling for so long and realising that the rewards I would of been saving up for (with Proteans) seemed completely interior to other things that are more easily obtainable in the game. It kinda felt like being thrown in to the Yo Kai FATE grind all over again, and that was a grind I'd prefer to avoid greatly.

I wanted Eureka to be an activity that would give me incentive to log in every day or other day, slowly working to get that special something that's worth the dedication. For now though as nice as it is, there is little reason to log in as often as I expected and I'm sure probably not the only one. SE will need to make some revisions for next patch, but let's hope a Diadem rework isn't required as that's now fairly dead to the casual player.

First impression once I got in? The landscape is interesting, an island to explore is cool... and the content is boring as hell. I found it tolerable ONLY because I went in with a full party and everyone on Discord so we could chat and joke around while playing. With no real variety or things to break up the grind it's so monotonous that I'd rather go do the dishes than run it solo. We quickly found the best way to get XP was to kill mobs five+ levels above us, and due to the long recharge rate on the magia board, it makes the most sense to stick to one type of mob for a while. While effective, that was mind numbingly boring.

For people who like it, more power to ya. I'd rather run dungeon roulette and get some variety in what's going on.

It's "bad" grind, in that there's nothing to break it up. No objectives, no significant quests, no switching content types (dungeons, raids, fates, etc). No crafting, no gathering. No nothing except kill the same things over and over again to make the bar go up.

Also, I find it odd that healing doesn't scale whatsoever with level. HP pools are the same at every level I got, as was healing output. I was exactly as effective keeping the party alive at level 1 as at level 4. All that changed was that my damage numbers went massively up and I stopped getting one shot. It's weirdly unsatisfying.

Spent all night in Eureka, first trying out just grinding chains, then helping to spawn NMs, then just sitting in base waiting for NMs to spawn.

Sorry, XI diehards, I don't enjoy sitting in one spot as you train in mobs, that's not fun to me, it's just horribly boring and grindy. At one point I wanted to eat dinner so i set up my controller real quick for RDM by slapping on just jolt 2 and scatter, using one hand to just spam while I ate Chipotle.

Overall the only thing I sort of enjoyed was killing NMs. The rest is borderline unplayable. The most fun I had in the whole thing was playing my 3DS while I semi-afk'd waiting for people to spawn the NMs.

I don't see it's a zerg fest. It's only a zerg fest if you are playing it wrong. I hate zerg fests like normal Fates, hunts, Diadem and trash mobs. Yet I am enjoying Eureka. So how can it be a zerg fest if that's the case?

It seemed like something that, at first glance, seemed possible to both solo as well as engage in party group play. ffxiv's combat system however, makes this difficult to enjoy for long peroids of time without some measure of voice chat to break up the grind.

What made these MMO grinds of yesteryear work was this revolutionary thing called socializing. and the combat system in ffxiv doesn't allow for this in the face of the fast paced gcd, you can only socialize or play without voice chat. Its not prevalent in every party, but without that freedom to talk to party members or friends, I think its only a matter of time before the player starts wondering "what am I doing with my life?"

The relic rewards also have me concerned. I'm not at all a fan of the AF, with the exception of possibly the weapon and it seems like this was all phoned in with its +1, +2 nonsense. and with none other new armor rewards in sight, I'm not sure I should be sticking this out for the long haul or not for something that I'd glamour over that is an inferior ilvl and more work...and God help the man who thinks they'll doing more than one job of these relics....

That's the problem with content like this, isn't it? Can I justify sticking this out for the obscenely large amounts of crystals that this thing is asking for some of its rewards, given the speed gear is invalidated in ffxiv? If I already want to glamour over my AF(admittedly a low bar passed during Shinryu normal...about a year and change ago...) why am I here?

It's a shame that Eureka and the main game's content clash to this degree, and I have a feeling the devs will end up taking the wrong message from this, and assume there's nothing wrong with the stagnant main game as a result. That the ilvl system is such that it cannot suffer any other activities other than the one at the top (read: raiding) and the fact that this, this alternative that was held off so long only to pretend like it released in 4.0 feels tone deaf.

Tldr: It tried, and while I like the premise. The problems in the core game of ffxiv taints this activity.

First of all, it discourages zerg fests by nerfing the exp you get from claimed mobs, so it's in your best interest to only touch the mobs your party is fighting.

Second, the mobs in here can one shot you. You can't just "mindlessly zerg" them down. You have to actually pay attention.

Third, you have to group up and find a camp where the mobs are higher than your level that it gives decent exp but still be able to chain. These mobs won't die as fast as normal trash mobs.
