    It's a mistake.

    What makes it worse, they hyped this for 17 months only to deliver "new" content that borrows aspects of old content players dislike. The ratio of effort to rewards seems messed up, too. There's better alternatives to get better gear than what you'll get here.

    I'm not as upset as others about it though. I already expected it to be like this. The only thing I'm upset with is that the developers proved that they learned nothing from past mistakes.

    For most games, I'm okay with grinding. I'm currently grinding License Points in The Zodiac Age. Heck I've been grinding for XP for probably 30 years now. But in those games, the grinding has tangible, long-lasting, and, most importantly, guaranteed results.

    Eureka, instead, gives me the impression of playing the lottery. Since it's Protean we're after, and since it's only a chance it drops (an abysmal chance) the mass killings are just extra lots in the pool (and the chances are still abysmal). I've seen far too many testimonials of hours of grinding and only a handful of crystals to show for it. People are losing interest exponentially quickly. It's not just a matter of "we're doing it wrong" or "it'll get better with adjustments." Within 24 hours the damage to place's reputation is...phenomenal.

    But perhaps there may be a sliver of hope, as some players are discovering new NMs and compiling potential spawn conditions. NMs give massive XP and if we're able to spawn the NM, kill it, and then repeat, that'd mitigate at least some of the elemental grind. Especially if they're easily respawned. That said though, it may turn into hunts with that "early pull" drama. We'll see.

    Eureka's not necessarily dead on arrival, but the future is going to have very dramatic effects on this forbidden land. What will be telling is how improved the drop rates actually are at higher elemental levels. If nothing noticeably dramatic, that's really gonna finish this place off. And what then for the people remain? Will it then be more efficient to still farm the lower level mobs because they'll die faster? Or if it IS noticeable, will "Max level only" parties start and be the only acceptable makeup? Will this then cause a gap in progression between players as time goes on and more steps are added? Well, it's too early to judge that yet. I will say though that even if the rates are "improved" I've simply had too many 90+% success rates that fails/NQs in gather/crafting to have confidence in it. But that's my bias talking.

    And speaking of personal bias, I also am not pleased to see plans for long-window spawning NMs return and I have to hope against hope they won't be required for progression. Having to camp is not something I want to do. I simply do not have the time to wait for hours doing nothing anymore, and hunts, Ixion, etc have already laid the foundation for how the community handles these things.

    I'm not writing it off just yet since there's still more to discover, but the first impression is not a good one, I'll say that much.

    in some regard i don't Entirely mind eureka. during a typical week i always feel like i have a billion things to get done in game with never enough time but it's nice to just mentally check out in eureka and spam kill mobs with little to no effort.

    BUT..... the crystal drops need serious improvement, the lootboxes giving sparklers is infuriating and the fact you can lost 1/4 of your progress past lvl 6 if you die (and even LEVELS) makes me want to kermit..... had this happen to me tonight and lost all the progress i had on lvl 6. and given how long it's taking just to get one level... i can't even imagine, much less fathom, how exhaustingly long this will take to get to 20. i miss the hw relic... at least the crystals and fates were tolerable and i'm pretty sure i got them all done in a matter of a week.

    The new gear, minions, and mounts from this are all fantastic.

    They didn't even try with the actual content though. People like to compare this content to FFXI, and FFXI did have a lot of exhausting grinding that stood out as its worst feature, but this is a different kind of beast. Abyssea atleast had a ton of quests to spread out the player's time with, objectives other than the incessant grind. Eureka isn't fun, and it doesn't feel rewarding because it's just so boring to kill the same monsters over and over and over again with barely any actual tactics.

    It's interesting when an NM appears, but most of the time the NM doesn't become the actual threat- people start dropping due to the nearby monsters instead, because everyone's paying all their attention to the NM. And with so many people dying at these, once EXP loss becomes a thing, even this will no longer be "interesting." It will instead be irritating.

    (the red part is talking about Diadem I think)

    The deeper you go in that thread the more negative the comments turn, as people spend more time in Eureka and realize how shallow it is.
