why does sexual orientation has to be the centerfold of an FC or Discord channel? If a group entitled themselves "Proud to be Straight," I'd raise my eyebrow.

That would be my take on the answer to your question. I really don't see it as "mud slinging" since I agree that in no way would I make an 'all straight' channel. It is a personal choice that does not effect anyone but yourself and those you concern yourself with, and has no bearing on the game itself.

I also have a nitpick about your and VanilleFang's post, why do people always feel the need to sling mud every time something like this is posted? It's perfectly understandable that you don't see the point of such a group, but what is your post trying to accomplish? I don't think OP posted this here to start a deep discussion on what other people are allowed to do, it seemed like just an advertisement, so while you're free to voice your disagreement about what other people do somewhere else in their time, what do you honestly think is gonna come out of this? They probably won't see your post and rush to delete the group after "seeing the light".

No one is flinging mud and no one [as far as I know], has an issue with LGBT groups or their members. It's the idea of making a FC or discord based soley on who you sleep with is what some people don't agree with. Nobody is shutting anything down, but they have a right to have an opinion [as long as it's constructive]. Whether or not a "deep discussion" was intended from the post is irrelevant.

I think voicing my opinion is a fair and decent use of the forums. I'm critical of groups such as Gayorzea because they tend to focus on alienation. Generally such groups perpetuate a sense of "us" and "them" which can be pretty harmful. I find diverse groups with open and honest discussion much more health to be a part of. I don't want to sit in an echo chamber of my own opinions.

Do you people have similar disagreements with clubs centered around certain cultures and ethnic groups? Hispanic Society, Asian American Clubs, Taiwanese Student Associations etc were all the types of clubs that were on my high school and college campuses. GSA - Gay Straight Alliances were a thing as well as the Culture Centers. Are you opposed to those spaces as well? Do you think those were made to be 'against the whites'?

Basically? It's a place where people of like minds can gather and find other people with similar interests. It's just as much as people finding a guns subreddit or subscribing to the ffxiv subreddit.

Sorry, I'm not fan of boxing myself into a particular group based on things as immaterial as sexual orientation.

What about this is boxing yourself, if I may ask? One would be joining a discord, not secluding themselves automatically from all other servers/games/discords, etc. It's just a different way to meet people.

If I wanted to join a discord for people that like the color blue, am I boxing myself in? Such a bizarre notion.

But you don't have to sit there, I don't think the OP wrote "VanilleFang, please join our group!". Like I said you're free to voice your opinion, but I'm asking what do you think it will accomplish, what's your intent.

why would a minority want to make a space for themselves where they can interact with similar people and share common interests in a space they can deem secure, I wonder.

@alimdia: it's the internet, sometime people can throw out a comment without any deep meaning behind. As you put it yourself, you're nickpicking the nickpickers, you're basically doing the samething they're doing without recognizing it. Ask yourself the same question you're asking them, about what you are trying to accomplish yourself asking them those question. If you can answer that, then I believe you find your own answer without them even have to answer you. And if you can't find your own answer, then I doubt you will be able to understand or accept whatever answer they would have given you.
