perhaps the answer isn't changing mentor requirements but rather toughing up single player instances as a hard gate to later content to force people to figure out what they're supposed to be doing. even the saintliest of mentors will lose patience teaching people their 1-2-3 combo in susano ex after a while.

Because it does correlate with some of the requirements to becoming a battle mentor and I admit I don't see why it's available to DoH/DoL mentors. # of comms -> you're a decent enough player you likely won't be completely dead weight. # of dugeons -> you probably know what you're doing or you wouldn't have completed it. They do require a certain amount of skill, mind you, not a mentoring ability, but skill, out of the people who queue up, and while I agree with people who say it's still not an indication, it's the only thing they have to go on. I know people who main dps who, despite having played for years, aren't anywhere near the amount of comms needed to becoming a mentor. So maybe it does mean something.

In fact, you should only be able to queue as AiN for it, because AiN is what's currently needed and the point is to fill what's needed. Or not?
Just look at how often DPS is AiN for raid roulette. what AiN is shifts from moment to moment and between types of content. Otherwise just call it a day and only let tanks queue. Maybe healers once in a blue moon.

I dunno. If the purpose really is to fill queues... it's not set up very well for its purpose.
Iono I've put 1K runs for that winged horned pony and I fully intend to run that extra 1k when I'm able, I'd say it's sufficient at what it's there to do.
I mean, it does it better than forcing people to teach first timers how to run Shiva extreme, that's for sure.

Whats that got to do with mentors acting toxic?
You're solution is just to basically throw the blame on new players.
Yes some new players dont know their rotations because the ilvl restrictions for outdated content has such a high range,People doing content unsynced is also a huge factor to this.If they were to remove unsyncing and balance ilvl caps better then this would combat that issue but it still wont fix the issue with all the awful mentors out there.

Maybe they should implement a system for like Mentor Rating. Something that says "How do you think the Mentor has helped you?" and give them a choice between 1-10. If the mentor gets bad rating all the time, he could loose his status or somewhat another penality. This should consider the mentors tho, that haven't had a chance to explain somehow and somewhat :v
Remove that crown from your head if you aren't a good king. And be good is not just to be a good player, is about to give the right advice with gentleness heart that every good king/master should have to training their apprentice. If the apprentice is rudness, disobedient and don't wanna to get any advice for their master they deserve a bad grade too. Also, if the mentor do it, he deserve the bad grade.

Honestly, they should have made the mentor icon something less desirable than a crown. Maybe copy XI's Icon that was a blue ball with an 'M' in it. (On phone, can't get image to post for now)

Seems a lot of people just wear the crown because they like the look.

A welcome change is a PvP mentor get that status by PvP achievements, rather than crafting pants and shoes.

Considering the current hot topic in PvP, wouldn't it be more adequate to tie it to the mammeteer title?

Honestly mentor status requirements should be updated every major patch. Not necessarily gigantic updates, but still something.
And that crown needs to be replaced with a watering can.

A rating system could still work even if there are some people who do some 1 star (or 5 star) reviews for stupid reasons. Just have percentile thresholds and a minimum number of received ratings to affect a score.

And don't put any incentives to give people ratings. Commendations are a fail because some people, especially new-mid level players, give them out to get the free exp from the challenge log.

I have 750 comms on multiple characters. XD I really don't think that sort of change will make any sort of meaningful changes to the system cause it's really easy to reach. Granted I like to think I'm a good player, at least somewhat competent, anyone can do that.

Honestly, for as many bad mentors as they are, it also needs to be acknowledged that it's not just mentors that are toxic, the general player base can also bring out the worst in some despite some mentors best intentions.
