Hmm,
Maybe he now can grow some balls and actually speak up and say we need new servers.
Those servers from the '80's are not cutting it anymore.

Being on the board of directors of one company usually isn't a full time job in itself, so I expect he'll still be around. Stuff may change, though. If he's less visible, that wouldn't be surprising.
The board also doesn't tend to set funding for individual projects (that's an executive management thing), but he would certainly have an easier time getting the ear of the C-suite from the board. Putting him there is a recognition of the job he's done on this game, for sure. Good for him.![]()

And you know he hasn't already done that because...?
The people who set the budget are under no obligation to listen to every producer that says they need more budget, because in the real world, you ALWAYS want more budget for a project. Nobody has ever said "no, we're good, take away some budget."

"The top dogs made him do it!"
Well, now he is one of the top dogs.

This could mean we could get the FFXIV FFXV crossover event sooner than later.

If he is in fact or will be on the board it really is good news, he will have a bigger voice for the game. Whether the rest of the board agrees is something else
as good at this sounds, that "April 1st" thing makes me think its a prank

Square-Enix's fiscal year starts on April 1. That makes it a natural day for a new board of directors to take responsibility.
SE is a publicly traded company and thus has legal reporting obligations on this sort of thing. If they announced it, then it's legit. Playing a prank with that stuff would lead to shareholder lawsuits and regulatory investigation.

Doubt it.If hes going to be on the board of directors it means he'll be spending less time on just FF 14 as there is a lot more than just this game in the SE franchise.
And while obviously his voice will weigh more on any changes he will actually be expected more than before to keep company spending in line on projects like FF14.

Yoshi-P plays things too safe and doesn't try to make lasting content (yes I know about diadem but more could have been done, or he could have made diadem better before releasing it). I wasn't around for the 1.0 days but I heard that the director was bad. Yoshi saved the game for 2.0 but since then the formula hasn't changed. It has gotten to the point that it's stale and it's repetitive.
We need a director who isn't afraid to take risks, risks that will pay off, a director who makes lasting content that helps the game grow, and a director who mixes up the formula so it doesn't remain as stale as a old pretzel.
I'm sure Yoshi is a nice guy, but it's time for a change, one that will help FFXIV grow as time goes on, cause unless something changes, this stale formula will continue and nothing will change.
