The people that go on about "Why would a company waste their time on something that won't be super popular?" Well, then, every single game out there should just have human female as an option, because majority of these games, that is the most popular; why bother with anything else.
See how that kinda sounds ludicrous? Because it's a ludicrous argument against having additional flavors added to a game.

Would it be as ludicrous as asking a dev team to once more salvage Diadem regardless of how unpopular it has been? Perhaps some should take time to consider that perhaps the draw for many (including the dev team) may be that those other games have a distinct setting and theme, just as this game does. The dev team had the work done with concept Au Ra, we have plenty of great beastmen design in game, but they have shown their preference. The people that go on about "Why would a company waste their time on something that won't be super popular?" I had a different thought related to this - maybe we won't ever get beast races as playable characters, but what about being able to hire the current beastmen as retainers instead of only being able to choose from the playable races? Maybe just 'accepted' races like goblins and Qiqirn to begin with, and the others unlocked as an extra bonus for completing the relevant beast tribe quests?
(Of course that would cause issues with equipment display, but it could just be accepted that it's 'for stats only' and not actually visible on those characters. They can equip weapons at least.)

The general rule of thumb is if it isn't Hello Kitty cutesy, it won't be considered.

+1 for Ivalice Moogle.
Because:
- Moogles can share gear with Lalafell
- Moogles are cute, kupo
- Moogles are already on Hydaelyn. No need to create lore excuses. It would be somewhat natural if the player discovers that it have a city created entirely by Moogle engineers (such as Goug on FFT:A2)
But I would suggest, also from Ivalice:
Bangaa:
Its model already exists on FFXIV, on Rabanastre.

+1. They already gave us Ananta house NPCs, I wouldn't mind seeing more of it elsewhere. They could even lock it behind the relevant beast tribe where applicable - though let it be said that the ARR beat tribes won't make a lot of sense on the lore front in that sense. Most of those are still largely considered hostile despite any progress made in their respective beast tribe quests, but Ananta, Vath (they have their own adventurer's guild!) and maybe Vanu could be considered.

Yes, I did have that thought as well afterwards! (Although I haven't actually finished any of the ARR tribe quests so I didn't know for sure if anything changed, though I wouldn't have expected it.) But if it was implemented, I don't know if it would have to be "all or nothing" for fairness or if people would think it's okay to only have access to lore-appropriate tribes.
(I think I'd like to have a goblin retainer.)
