My Opinion of the Little Ladies Day Event

How does being annoyed that the event revolves around 3 NPCs rather than the holiday become "man, I wish we didn't have this event at all"?

You really do not represent rest of FF14 English player base.
The moment S/E made this event to be Japanese servers only, I am pretty sure there will be more complains about why English servers are not getting the same event.

If you dont like the event, dont participate.

It's perfectly possible to dislike a seasonal event yet reluctantly participate for the sake of the achievement points alone (which can now be traded in for items).

It's also perfectly possible to criticise a seasonal event and offer feedback as to how it could be improved. I'd actually be fine with Little Ladies Day being geared towards female characters. It makes sense - and yet we've seen bias towards them in pretty much every other seasonal event too at one time or another. I still remember when male characters received a 'set' that lacked trousers altogether at Halloween a couple of years ago.

I mean... Aren't most of the female characters men anyways, or rather isn't the supposed rule, everyone one is a guy. :P My BF plays a girl, his friend plays a girl... Heck I know more guys that play girls than guys that play guys.

You see, Valentines day in Japan is actually a pro-male event. That's when WOMEN give gifts (traditionally, usually in form of hand-made chocolates, but I bet that in practice most are just ready-bought) to MEN. And men don't do anything but give in to their inner glutton, cause other than the chocolates from the admirers, there are also "obligatory" chocolates to classmates/co-workers/friends etc.

Then that is reversed in White Day when men give out chocolates to women...

If we don't have a White Day...wouldn't "Valentione" by developers standards be the "man's day"?! And I wouldn't be surprised if it was meant to be that, but translators "localized" that part as well, since outside of Japan valentines are unisex event.

It's hardly any secret that there are a considerable number of people - most of whom who are conveniently playing female characters - who take any and every opportunity to downplay any and all concerns brought up by those of us playing male characters when it comes to glamour options, hairstyles or seasonal events. Even though, historically, we've been given a raw deal more often than not.

It's fine to point out that the event is based on a real life celebration. It isn't fine to have a smug attitude when the concerns about male glamour/rewards are a genuine thing across the board.

Want me to screenshot the various outfits I have for my various male characters? They're pretty sexy. I can help you too for the low fee of 5 mil gil (plus the cost of glamours).

This *is* a final fantasy game, save for a few the males don't exactly dress hypermasculine, and since it's based on an actual holiday I don't see why people think it's some conspiracy to push men down. Sure healer gear could be more "gender neutral" but it's kinda silly to expect fashion in a final fantasy game to not shift a little more towards feminine. As well as trying to force western standards onto a japanese centric game is silly at best.
Enjoy the holiday, don't play it if you don't like it.
