The way it sounds, the idea of a glamour log would turn out to be the game requiring to carry around the data for every available piece of gear, for every character in the zone, at all times.

The limitations of the system are designed to cut down on how much data that's attached to the characters at all times. It may take a little while before they think of some work-arounds.

I'd like to believe they're still holding back a little bit, that they might still have room to up the data limit on characters to allow a little more freedom. But they're going to need a good bit of time before they have enough data to show how much space they have to work with.

Increase plates, definitely. It's entirely too restricting to only have ten options. I've finally been able to enjoy all those gorgeous Crafting and Gathering sets yet have to abandon them if I want to switch up my battle jobs. Such a silly limitation they never should have released with.

What have the PS4 to do with their servers? They already called it network limitation.
And before PS4 limitations come the 32Bit/Mac limitations (the new inventory UI, as an example)

I am a bit skeptic if they are ever going to truly increase the limit, since they already talk about having to watch the data...why introduce a system where you dont even know if you can realistically increase the limit over time? What horrible old system and code are they running on that they cant just increase them?

I mean they were also planning to give us more inventory space and yet we never got the full increase because it was too much stress..this just sound like that too..

They should be able to increase both and not have to chose between one because that would just mean that we would get these things way later.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Its a shame, I really like the idea behind the wardrobe (culls your inventory while making applying glams fast and easy) but the limitations are what make it less impressive.

Would love to see the limit increased and more plates added (10 plates when there are 15 jobs not counting crafters/gatherers is strange) and I find I use a lot of my time adjusting plates, which isn't very fun. Not to mention the fact we can't hide gear set items is just plain stupid.

I understand the problems, but definitely hoping the system improves, as it is now its usable, but it could be so much more.

It's partially that, and partially that by making things more inconvenient they reduce usage, thus reducing potential load, the only load they have to account for is people inside of cities.

This is sort of why the glamour dresser isn't easily accessible as well, by putting the glamour dresser in one of the most inconvenient places in the game (inn room) they drastically reduce the number of times people will be accessing it, and since inn rooms are low-resource rooms where you are unable to access some combat stuff it further reduces the load the servers have to deal with. If we had a glamour log as accessible as a crafting log, by just pressing a button anywhere anytime, the servers would probably implode.

When they feel like the initial rush for testing the system dies down they will add the housing furniture to make the dresser more accessible, but I'm not sure what they plan to do with plates, I find the system useless if you have to be confined to a lobby (town) to use it, and much more useless if it doesn't even cover half the amount of classes available.

They say they are looking for ways to include dresser items in glamouring the traditional way. Could the please also look for ways to include inve tory items into saving the plates. That alone would solve good part of the annoyance with the dresser forcing you to delete things, and wouldn't strain inventory space any more than it already is strained.

Thanks for the detailed response to my question! For this part, I find the limited number of plates much more of an issue than having to be in town to use it. While it's not as practical as it could be as it was usable anywhere, the plate system still makes it a lot easier to switch between glamours - so long as you plan a little in advance or take a minute to detour to the nearest town where you can change plates.

I wouldn't have even thought of having multiple costumes for the same job if I had to redo the glamours every time, but now I've got two different summoner costumes (an 'everyday wear' one and an 'elaborate' one) and two different monk costumes (an 'individual design' that I like and the 'temple gear' that seemed more appropriate for running job quests). I can switch back and forth as many times as I like.

The other six slots are taken up with other classes that I am leveling, including gatherer and crafter.

Warping back to a town to change costumes is a minor inconvenience, but the restricted number of plates means that I can't set up a lot of additional costumes that I'd like to have on hand.

I find myself wondering if a middle ground between these two choices can be achieved. In trying to figure out why they say that they have to choose one or the other, my guess is that it may be possible for areas outside of main cities to support the data of carrying ten plates, but anything more than that may be too much. Hence, if they increase the total number of plates available, we won't be able to carry those with us when we go outside.

However, I wonder if a hybrid system would be possible. For example, our first ten Glamour Plates can be applied anywhere in the world. Then we have ten additional plates (for a total of 20) that can only be applied within main cities.

Edit: More accurately, it would be better to say that we have 20 (or more) plates to work with, but we get to choose 10 as "favorite" glamour plates that can be applied anywhere. Even better if we can freely assign which plates are our favorites from outside the Inn Room.

Pertaining to Q8 in particular, I'm interesting in collecting feedback. Between choosing to expand the number of areas glamour plates can be applied (such as outside of town) and choosing to increase the total number of plates available, which would the community prefer? Ideally, it would be nice to see both, but if restricting to choosing one or other, as described in the answer provided, what would people choose?

The reason why I quote Q7 here is because I think it's important to take note of their plans to allow glamouring directly using the items stored inside the dresser which is independent of their choice of what to do about plates. Considering their plans to make glamour items within the dresser no longer require the use of a plate to be applied, I think that helps to alleviate the strain of having only ten plates. However, this planned change won't alleviate the concerns of players who simply need more plates.
I absolutely love the glamour plate system and dresser.

    • Items placed into the dresser have bloated information about them removed.

Things like stats are removed. This is data. Data that takes up more room than it needs to for gear that may only be used for its looks. Why should you care? Condensed data being needed/ saved means the possibility of having more space and could contribute to things like more inventory space, more glamour slots, more plates and so on.

However, with people carelessly placing in items that warn you that you can't receive them back, this may change. I am unsure if they can do something like player recalls item from dresser > replace dresser entry item with corresponding armor with same details (dye) and still keep the same kind of condensed data that should be there now.

    • The plating idea is nifty, but the limitation on where can you can change really kills the feature.

I can understand not switching in dungeons, or even while in combat. My guess for why you can't change in smaller settlements or open world is because this is unnecessary data to have the game process and need access to. From what I've seen, you can only switch glamour plates in major towns and residences - places that generally do not contain monster data or AI (a striking dummy is little more than an entity that has its AI removed / disabled along with a specific mesh). My only counter to this thought is with limited plates using condensed data, I do not see how this could be an issue to track, especially when we can glamour normally anywhere (provided we have the gear and a prism) - even in dungeons (and in combat I think).

The feature doesn't separate per job. If I have one healer glamour and use it across all three healers, I need to use up three slots for each healer, or keep their weapons separate to glamour every time I upgrade it. It's just 10 plates of designs for as many classes as you play, which still isn't too far off from just keeping the prisms and items on you and glamouring per upgrade. Personally, I'd have liked to have a multi-weapon save, that way you could still store weapons in the dresser and condense them.

    • Overall, I'd rather they added more dresser slots before plates.

Like I said above, with plates being less useful than the older glamour system, simply having more spaces to store glamour would be more useful and free more space for both the game and players alike. Keeping glamour in the dresser removes it from my inventory, armory, saddlebag and retainer, which is a much bigger boon to the playerbase as a whole than simply adding more plates to a system that I know some people do not want, or plan, to use (I know of a few people that vehemently swear against it, some with valid concerns and others with less than logical reasons).

    • I haven't yet hit 200 full slots yet, but that's because I know once I place an item in there, it's gone. Once I hit 200, I need to start destroying pieces to place more in.

My response is directed to Yoshida-san and his statement to they'll see when more players hit 200 full slots. Personally, I won't hit 200, not until more slots are added. I don't want to have to make the choice of 'do I keep this?' to add another item in there, especially for such a vague reason (which if enough people don't reach full dressers, will the feature never gain upgraded slots? That's not a risk I want to take). There's very little glamour I know I'll want to keep forever, but as of current, this still puts me up over 100 items, knowing full well that there are more patches and expansions on the horizon.
