I know Balmung is infamous for many types of particular players, but are we supposed to be claiming the bad ones now too?

It's confirmation bias really. All servers have the same issue, but if you're predisposed against one in particular then you're going to just have it confirmed over and over again when it turns out to be true; no matter how many times it wasn't before then. I used to have the same issue in regards to Gilgamesh until I took a step back and realized that I was ignoring the 99% of other instances where I queued with players from that server with no issues in favor of the one instance ever few months where I bothered to check the server of origin and it happened to be there. Which was doubly moronic on my part because I /started/ on Gilgamesh and only had positive experiences in my week long tenure.

As for story time, I actually had a fairly nice run of Lakshimi (Hard) today. It's been so long since I did it that I completely forgot when to pop Vril and I certainly wasn't the only one, for on top of nearly four newbies the other people had clearly forgotten how to handle the encounter as well. We spent a few minutes explaining, with me running to a friend with better memory for confirmation on mechanics that I then shared, and we tried it. The first run wasn't that great. Four people forgot to pop Vril and went flying to a Chanchala and with another DPS putting puddles in the wrong place we eventually wiped. No harm, no foul. We lost one DPS instantly but it was their loss because the second time around everyone got the mechanics and the run was mostly smooth. It was nice to see a group mostly sticking through the content to help people get their story clear and patiently trying to help.

Trotted out my Bard alt for a Leveling roulette and landed in Toto-Rak. The first sign of trouble was that I had more hp than the sprout Gladiator. Nearly a hundred more hp. The first pull started, Gladiator Flashed right away.... and I stripped threat out from under him with ease.

Ouch.

Okay, so I decide to maybe ease back. No DoTs applied, just Quick Nocking the second pull.

Yanked threat again.

This was the theme for the whole dungeon. And I'd like to say that the tank was bad... but he wasn't. He was just a wee baby in leveling gear and not yet level 30 for his job stone. Unless I did nothing but auto attack, I yanked threat out from him in a heartbeat. The other DPS was a Lancer and the healer was a top notch Scholar that figured out real fast that I needed a lot of TLC.


So sprout Gladiator? I'm sorry. I could see you trying to use all your tools and I tried to ease off as much as I could, but I couldn't let the Lancer carry all the DPS and there just was no way for you to out threat me. And my comms went right to that Scholar who kept me off the floor when I became the surprise co-tank for the run.

Can't put all the blame on Balmung when Goblin exists

(Seriously Goblinese people, do something with your player base. Maybe whenever all 30 of you are online you guys can sit down and talk over game basics.)

Decided to do some roulettes, went into a shinryu through trials. Run went relatively smoothly until I fell off in the second phase like an idiot. Group ended up wiping slowly and painfully. Two of the players end up antagonizing me for it throughout the second pull, so I leave and go do something else for a while. I come back and decide to go help with some other shinryus to make up for my unpleasant run beforehand.

After clearing those runs without incident, I see a new tank in PF trying to get help with his ala mhigo run for the story. I jump in with a damage dealer, we get a 4th from DF, and we clear it smoothly for him. I decide to stay with that guy through the cutscene and help him with the final trial too. It feels good to help someone in a positive manner after having a negative experience.

So I just had a "fun" one.

I ran my 50/60 for the day on my War. I'm not the best War, but I can hold my own with it, compared to how I handle Pld or Drk (especially the latter). I got a Copperbell hm in progress . . . that wasn't even to the first boss after 9 minutes. OK, time to shine and be the hero they need! Well...

The "healer" was a Whm (sadly from Adamantoise, marking a rare occasion I had any problem from that server) who barely ever used Regen, ran forward without waiting on anyone, and spammed their attack spells including Holy. That didn't keep me from taking charge in any situation, but I could tell right away why the previous tank left. Look, I play Whm a lot, especially in warmer months so my fingers aren't frozen, so I am all for contributing to DPS as a healer. But a Whm is that - a healer. When the only heal is a sporadic use of Regen at best, and the person in question is just spamming their attack magic, then we're asking for trouble.

As we break that last rock before the FIRST BOSS I ask politely if the party prefers the entrance strategy or the exit one, whilst moving so I don't fall behind the group (yay one-hand typing). The Whm, however, just ran into the boss and face-pulled it plus the first group of slime. Right, exit strategy it was for me as I Overpowered the mobs and moved us all to the very end of that walkway, as tempting as it was to hang back and tell the dps to do the same. We get through that just fine, though I barely survived due to the lack of heals.

We get to the rock and minotaur pull before the next boss, and the Whm started spamming Holy instead of going for that rock, at least, with their attack spells. I at least marked the rock and the DPS went for it while I grouped and dealt with the adds.

Second boss? No one else dealt with the adds. One DPS helped with the bombs. I intended to stun the boss so it didn't run out of the blasts' range; the Whm Holy spammed the boss. OK, you what? Seriously? Lots of dmg went out, and we made it due to being overgeared.

AND THEN I go for the trash pull after that. I received zero heals, the Whm Holy spammed everything, and I died. I got up grabbed everything I could see since the idiot healer was running back and forth like a headless Chocobo, and again saw the healer IN MY LINE OF SIGHT when I received zero heals and died a second time despite cooldowns. So. I finally decide to be the hero that healer deserved and I asked them where the heals were on that pull. The healer complained that the mobs were all over them so they couldn't do anything. I called them out again saying I had the monsters under control while I lived, and I even used cooldowns.

Then that Whm said they didn't need this shit, and promptly left.

The healer we got after that was just fine, though they or someone else forgot to feed the worm one time (not the end of the world since, again we were overgeared).

So yeah! I hope never to see that person again.

And I totally don't blame your server either. My experiences are typically from neutral to pleasant. I don't want to call out this person by name, however, who's the rotten apple of the bunch; that's so not my gig on public spaces like this.

I met a warrior in Shisui of the Violet Tides dungeon double pulling everything without a single usage of overpower throughtout the whole run.. That tank didn't even bother to regain the mobs, but instead change into deliverance..
What's worse was I met this tank not once, but twice during a span of 5 hours..

Yeah. You always hear about other servers but I don't really know what the general consensus is about our server. I'm assuming people forget we exist. T_T We have a really friendly community though!

I don't really have much of a story except... why is it so hard for people to stick with their alliance in Rabanastre? Like... I should stop raising people I have to waste GCDs to run to. The last run I had of Rabanastre was so draining on mp that I ran nearly oom 3 times, and ran dry once, because I had to raise people so often. This was coupled with being the primary healer (the other healer was a bit slow) and trying to help with the very poor DPS.
