Leveling WAR and I'm really excited to hit 50 where things start to open up and I can do more roulettes. I have really enjoyed the class so far and for the most part tanking in general.

I got to 47 tonight with leveling roulette and decided to bite the bullet and run a few Aurum Vales to keep the exp flowing. I queue in and want to be honest so I tell everyone I'm new to tanking it but I'll try my best. To my surprise no one leaves!

We have a hiccup right at the beginning, the healer (who wasn't new, multiple 60+ jobs including WHM) dies during the first trash pack because he stands in the yellow goop. I brace myself for one of "those" runs. We don't wipe (yay self heals!) and move on.

It all goes pretty smoothly after that. We lose a DPS to the pokeball of death during the first boss and kick him before engaging the second since that seemed considerate enough. Turns out the one remaining DPS was actually new to the dungeon.

What do you think I did after that nice, smooth run? That's right, queue again with similar expectations.

The healer and one DPS leave immediately, we get new ones within a minute. A SCH who calls himself a "noob healer" and a sprout NIN. Things go alright up until the first boss. I'm tanking him on top of one fruit (for me) and with his back facing another fruit (for the NIN) and trusting the BLM and SCH to find their own. I already told them to eat at 2 stacks.

I hit 2 stacks and the boss is getting ready to hit me so I wait for tge attack to go off since it would just interrupt me anyways. That's when the BLM comes sprinting through the boss and eats my fruit. I look around and the only remaining fruit is being eaten by the healer, the BLM must have eaten more than one.

I die. NIN dies. The SCH gets me up and I can't lie I let the boss kill the BLM before provoking it off. SCH and I solo it the rest of the way.

The rest of the run is similarly messy with a notable lack of AoE from the BLM. I don't die any more but we do let the BLM take a few more dirt naps.

He decides to eat fruit randomly in the last boss and I start to get worried. The healer is typing in party chat asking him to please stop. That's when I see it there - the button I got for hitting 48 after my last run.

I spam a last aggro combo and throw a SC on just to be safe then I Shirk the BLM. The NIN stops all actions because they're really close in threat now but the BLM dies almost instantly. I pull the boss off of the NIN and we 3 man it because the healer also seems to understand what happened and doesn't rez the BLM. We clear easily, even manage to kill all the pods before they germinate each time (yay doube SC!) and call it a day.

So yeah. That's my first use of Shirk. I honestly don't know if I can think of a better way it could have gone. I got 2 comms and gave mine to the SCH. I've had a couple tanking experiences that have shaken my confidence but that certainly helped build it back up!

I'm glad I'm not expecting too much. I mean, it isn't as if I even assumed a base level of understanding here - I set out specific direction before each boss because even if someone wanted a blind run AV is just not a place I'm alright with that.

The crazy part is the NIN was a sprout, the SCH was new to healing but the BLM is the one to almost wipe us. Maybe they know RobinMalvin's DPS who doesn't believe in being serious in dailies...

I fully admit to some light fun when I'm playing in a group of mostly friends but the goal is to still clear the content and do so quickly. I've seen the crap DPS in expert too lately, in fact a friend of kine was saying recently on their crystal ball that they had a BRD who was behind them in ST DPS.... While they were on WHM.

If your BRD rotation doesn't beat out spamming Stone IV I feel like maybe you need a new class.

So, I got my BLM up to level 70 the other night and I finished all the class quests. There are days when I feel really good as a BLM and then other days when I'm certain I am THE WORST BLM EVER TO EVER BE! Tonight kind of ended up as the latter.

I had reached the end of Stormblood (or rather, up to Ala Mhigo and the Menagerie). I had two friends willing to help me through both. One is a tank, the other is RDM. Great! We party up and queue into Ala Mhigo and we get a WHM. I say hi, and that it's my first time through (tank and RDM have been through before). No reply from healer. Fantastic.

    Except not.

Tank dies and then we wipe at the first trash pack. Why? Because the healer was not throwing out heals. At all. We didn't quite notice it right away since it happened SO BLOODY FAST.
We go back in, and we get to the first pack again and the healer peaces out up the road. Uhm. What? Ohhh here she comes, dragging a WHOLE BUNCH MORE. Did I mention she's still not throwing heals?

So, my tank goes "uhm.. you gonna heal?"
Healer goes "no, you need to tank faster"
Tank goes "we have someone new and I've only been here once."
Healer says "well, peace. I can't be bothered to spend 10 minutes here"
    And then leaves.

We get another WHM fairly quickly after that. Everything's fine until the third trash pack and ....... healer just.. stops doing anything. Tank dies. Healer dies. RDM dies. Then I die.
Healer "oh, I think I lagged." Ok.. deep breaths. One more shot.
Rest of Ala Mhigo was ok. So much moving during the Zenos made this BLM sad but we got through it.

    And then.... Shinryu.

Tank invited his other friend, who I like, to come along as co-tank. RDM joined as well and thank goodness for that. Right away, I knew I was going to be awful. And I was. I died, I think, 6 times. I lost count, to be honest. RDM revived me each and every time; I'm sure the healer just gave up caring, to be honest. Plus, every time I would get half-way through my opener (aaagaiinn), I'd have to move, I'd lose enochian, and I'd have to re-start and then I'd get killed.

It put me in such a miserable mood. We wiped JUST as Shinryu died so the wipe didn't count and I muted my mic (we were on voice chat) and watched the cut scenes while going between seething with anger and embarrassment.

Days like this make me wonder if I'm a decent enough player or if I'm just being carried all the time.

Yesterday I joined a Ifrit-Ex-PF to finally get the mount. We were four people, so I thought it wouldn't take much time. The person who set up the PF was a really talkactive, nice person, so it was much fun running with them.

After like... half an hour everyone got their mount except me. I was joking around with our healer that I knew I would be the last one and that this would gonna take a while, while the person who set up the PF was suddenly really quiet.

So, we ran Ifrit two times without seeing the mount drop and I was hyped for the third run, when THE GROUP GETS DISSOLVED WITHOUT A WORD.

I mean... If you really don't have any more time or just don't want to run Ifrit again, that's fine. But... You were so talkactive before, why not telling me that I'll need to look for another group?
I wasn't pissed at all, in fact I was happy that everyone else got their mount, but still... meh.

Using LB in expert dungeons is for elitist tryhards. Save it for savage and extremes only!

You've met the legendary "I ONLY PLAY THIS GAME FOR FUNNN" player, where numbers don't matter, speed the run up is too raid-like and using extra resources is not needed in dungeons. I met someone similar a couple of times in dungeons. You were being nice and everything, but you know... sometimes that kind people have a worse attitude that the so-called "elitists".

Arguing with these players is futile. I just bite the bullet and continue on.

Yeah. In the end, I just pointed out that my personal philosophy is that if I CAN do something that is super useful for the group, then why not do it... But I kept it friendly and positive. I was mostly frustrated because I was the healer there and the DPS wasn't great, so the DDs (who were 2 casters) not using the LB on the biggest pulls actually put much more weight on my shoulders. But I didn't even point this out since I didn't want to open that particular can of worms...

Yup, agreed. To some extent, the tank will also find themselves in trouble when they run out of cds and the trash is still far from dying. Calling DPS out is a bit risky because of the... well, reasons you mentioned. At most, you can mention "the DPS is kinda low, guys" or point out flaws in particular (SMN not using Bane/Bahamut/AoE DPS // BLM not using Thunder IV, Fire II, Foul), but again... chances are that you won't make them improve. Either that or they are slacking on purpose like the example given by RobinMalvin above.

I also agreed that, even with the given situation, we can try and do our best in order to not turn an already awful run into something worse.

    Cheers!
