Asking for dps is not really demanding though. As many healers as I see not even drawing their weapon and just standing their doing nothing in content and then crying harassment when you ask them to dps is just irritating when I am spamming every cooldown I have to melt the mobs quicker. Sch are esp bad since their fairy can heal perfectly fine in most leveling and story dungeons.

The need for over healing or constant mitigation is not the answer though either. I think sticking so hard to the outdated, bare bone trinity system really limits what they can do in content.

I don't mean that. OP wants healing and tanking to be harder. But this is just going to make the original job harder + still needing that DPS. Thus demand even more of healers on "casual" contents

To me, the OP has come from other games, where there's so much constant unavoidable raid-wide damage that you're pre-empting so much there's little to no chance of ever dpsing, and you have to make your build and gear all about getting the very highest hps, and tanks have to build the highest mitigation builds or not bother walking in the door.
I have to admit when I came here from other games, I was shocked on just how casual this side of the game is compared to others.
But I have come to accept it, and thats its not going to change anytime soon.

This is what I want so, so, so very badly in FF14 as a healer.

Content is not balanced around healers doing any damage at all, making healing harder would be the best thing that could happen to this game, but i doubt it's ever going to happen, so we have to live with the fact, that we are just merely supporters.

Look at it this way: if SE increases healing requirements to where the high end healers can barely dps, if at all, what do you think is going to happen to the healers who weren't dpsing in the first place?

This. The huge margin of potential downtime that makes the portion of healer globals spent DPSing is what allows skilled and unskilled healers to play the same content, while leaving both something to do at all times.

You can try to force improvement on those unskilled players, and that may even come to some success, but there's a good reason for where and how XIV has chosen to deal with derivative outputs (healing and mitigation), with both seeming largely undertuned in their requirements for most content, or overly intervallic for the remainder.

Is this supposed to be an excuse? Healer wise this is the worst MMORPG, i don't know any other MMORPG where you can sit on your hands all dungeon long, without healing anyone in your group. Also to answer your question, they will heal more? I'm pretty sure most of the so called lazy healer, just wan't to be healers, and not a half baked DPS with support skills

I'd like to be healing more. It certainly feels odd that I dps so much in your average run; but, then again, I came here from WoW.

They'd cast more healing spells. I don't see the problem.

... No they wouldn't. They'd fail . REALLY HARD. If you up the difficulty curve, people aren't going to suddenly get better. You're just going to lose a lot of people who aren't that hardcore into the game. Raising the bar doesn't make the jumper jump higher, they have to be willing to put in the effort, and people who are just barely grazing it now aren't likely the kind who'd put in extra effort to hit the new standards. What will likely happen if you make healing harder is you're going to get more people playing DPS, or possibly tanks cause "healing is too much effort". Say hello to "ADVENTURER IN NEED: HEALER" permanently.
