Pretty much a beast master type of class. It would be nice ( similar to FFXI with a twist of pokemon I take it)

I've had a thought for a new gatherer type that could be easily incorporated into the current crafting system without having to really rework any of the current recipes. Basically a class that uses an Aetherometer to extract Aetherial energy from nodes in the land and process them into items that can optionally be used to provide different boosts to individual craft attempts. The type of boost you get depends on the element on the Aether you use and the main elemental crystals that the particular class uses or any additional crystals the recipe uses.

For example, if you utilize a fire-based boost on a BSM, you could have an increased chance for a "good" or "excellent" proc. If the recipe used a different crystal in addition you could use a booster of that element and get a chance for reduced CP or randomly increased quality/progress on a skill. If you used a booster of an element other than one of the crystal types you could have an increased chance for recovery of items on a failure or something similar.

Honestly, though, I don't foresee them adding in a new gatherer at this point, there's really no need for it but it would be a nicety.

I'm not quite sure how this relates to a fourth gathering class?

It's fine at it is. It would only make everything more annoying. If anything they should merge blacksmith and armorer.

It makes more sense if they are different classes otherwise it would make crafting too competitive in the market board. Two classes for the price of one, we already got a break with SCH and SUM. If anything give us more Specialist options.

Wait, I know he said that about the DoH classes, but didn't he say in that interview, I think from PGW, that they were actually not ruling out a class like animal raiser? Which will cover exactly the field of skins and hairs that gatherers can't help with. DoH, yeah, he said a strict no about. DoL he said they're not ruling it out o.o

I was about to question it, too. They only said no to crafting classes, but not gathering classes.

The animal raiser/shepherd is a possibility. There's even evidence that it was planned for 1.0 but I guess they scrapped it when the game got remade.
With what Yoshida also said recently, there's some hope that it will become a possibility now.

The other day I was killing Yaks in order to get "Yaks Milk" to try and level Culinarian.
I was laughing at the silliness of it. Killing the Yak to get the milk instead of milking the yak.
But the same thing could be said of killing sheep to get wool. Or any number of other non-fatal animal resources.

Could there be enough of that out there to make a DoH class? Not sure, but it's an idea for you.
Shepherd maybe? Maybe make that 'poison dart' thing from Stormblood into a mini-game to knock out enemies and then harvest/heal them before they wake up?

I play FFXIV because I enjoy it.
Sometimes I have to remind myself of that simple fact.

Fix the horrendous item bloat first. Then either trim down FSH or find a use for all the different fish we can catch. What on earth is the whole point of FSH when 90% of the fish in-game have no practical purpose that something else couldn't fulfill? Sure, you can desynthesise them. And get Fine Sand, something MIN can already farm.

Point is, fix these issues before we talk about adding another DoL class to the game.

I wouldn't mind having a shepherd gatherer that has a rotation somewhere between fishing and general collectibles with a focus of getting mob drops in the same ways that the others work. This would actually help the inventory issues to an extent since it would remove mob drop collection from battle jobs. It might also raise the value of those items since they wouldn't be quite as easy for botters to obtain. Then again... that's all just speculation. Letting battle jobs collect drops from the mobs they kill is really just skipping a step, so it might be a hard sell to put resources into something that isn't really needed in the game.
