use chrome and an add blocker.... There are multiple addblockers extensions out there... the one i use is Adblock plus uBlock just enable the "Parse and enforce cosmetic filters" by clicking the check box in "settings".

I am able to use the full website with no issues and no adds.... This means even though im using an addblocker it doesn't force me to switch to that app option with minimal search and functions. You just need to adjust the settings in your addblocker so you can use the site as normal.

I removed the adblock on that site and then just went through and blocked all the ads with noscript.

I just want to add that this also works perfectly with uBlock Origin. Add those three lines to "My Filters".

What used to be perhaps the best site on the internet for FFXIV fishing information is now packed with annoying video ads that force Firefox to scroll up, hiding what you wanted to see and stuffing the videos into your face. And if you ad-block, you get a dumbed-down and flakey mobile version.

The information on Cat became Hungry came from the FFXIV fishing community, and now it's being monetized in a most annoying fashion.

So, what's the alternative?

There's ways around their anti-adblock.

I went a step further and just edited my hosts folder, and now my computer doesn't even try to find any ads from a few sources. So even with ABP turned off, nothing comes up.

I'm glad this string was started. I loved http://en.ff14angler.com/ AND https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Main_Page, when I first started playing FFXIV. Now the ads are intolerable. http://garlandtools.org/ has become my new favorite. It is better than the other two sites, for the most part, and you can use it without ads. My biggest complaint with Garland Tools is that the fishing database could be improved by being able to easily access the suggested bait.

I like some of the suggestions in this thread, though, and will try them. You can never have too many resources with this game!

Teamcraft has a fishing database with baits and weather and stuff.

You can search for fishing spots here, no idea if there is a better overview somewhere...

They let Botanists and Miners know where everything is (except for unspoiled nodes)

And even for unspoiled/legendary nodes you can see which zone it's on. If you're on the correct zone (anywhere on it) when the node is up, you get a nice pointer on your minimap towards the node. With a little bit of out-of-band knowledge (the active legendary nodes change every two Eorzean hours) it's possible to map out the nodes added in each patch within a single cycle. After you've gathered from a node once, you'll see a more accurate location and even the time(s) for the node.
