It's been an interesting experience. 4 times now have I been in platinum promotions. Results always ending with 2 wins, 3 losses.
Interestingly enough, only two of my losses have been extremely fair losses. The team just simply bested our team, and that's fine. I can handle those losses.
The rest of the losses were due to healers being heavily outscale from the other healers.
So, according to my own personal statistics, I've had the following:
2 fair losses: healers were around the same level, the following players were either platinum, diamond, or high gold.
10 majorly unscaled losses via healers: silver healer vs Plat healer. Interesting.
All the wins: Fair matches, close games, usually resulted in losses by a few medals or sudden death. Healers were on the same skill level.
As I was writing out this post, I entered the first match of my 5th promotional. Again, Silver healer vs Platinum Healer. Although I must give this silver healer some credit, considering who he was up against he did very well. But still, did not do as well as the Platinum healer.
Healing is an outrageously difficult class to play for ranked, especially at higher levels. Especially when the healer is being focused. The pressure is on and honestly, your options are limited. Concentrate and Purify aren't bad additional traits to take, but at the same time you lose one valuable additional skill (safeguard, recuperate, muse.)
It seems that this issue has increased heavily since all the good, higher leveled healers easily made it to the top 100. They are allowed to slow down on their ranks, only having the few who are ambitious enough to reach top 10 or even number 1 still participate.
So how to we purpose a different solution? It is a known fact that healers are heavily, heavily, heavily, depended on. Their skill level typically needs to be higher than the rest of the team. They have to keep up with the dps/tanks that doesn't think of their well being as well, those who accidentally interrupts their healing when they run behind walls or pillars.
We can't suggest separate class ranks, because if we have the top 100 healers, top 100 ranged dps, top 100 melee dps, and top 100 tanks then we'll experience even less healers.
We can't buff the defenses of healers as they will be insanely overpowered. But if we nerf the defenses of healers then they'll have even a harder time keeping themselves alive when 3 people focus them.
So what do we do?
Obviously this medal system is out of date for the new style of pvp. Tweaking the classes will not work for it anymore. But maybe there is another alternative; a complete overhaul to the way ranked matches work in general.
I know there is a new pvp mode coming out real soon, but perhaps we could see ranked turn into an objective based pvp, instead of the "kill x who has the highest amount of medals, squishiest, etc" system.
Teams work towards collecting the objectives instead of actually killing each other. Of course, killing enemy players will help with collecting these objectives, but the loss of a healer or a tank etc won't be nearly as demanding and hurtful to the team either. That way, lower scaled players will still stand a chance, and the higher they climb of course the better they get.
Think of it a smaller scaled frontlines. I feel like a new revamp to ranked is all we need.
