They are obviously children.
I only see disappointment and poor life choices.
Yoshi-P is doing his best and is patching Endwalker. Please wait warmly until it is ready.
Tataru Taru, Krile, and Papalymo are the characters that remind me that Lalafell are definitely not children, even though they appear like so.
Tataru Taru is a young woman in every sense of the word. She's smart, tactful, charming, and caring.
Krile is a scholar through and through. Her vast knowledge betrays her otherwise diminutive, child-like appearance.
And then there's Papalymo. Papalymo was something of a father figure to Yda, and his wisdom and patience helped temper Yda's rage and passion.
I play in English, so when I hear their voice actors, they definitely do not sound like children.
Krile and Tataru both sound like young women, and Papalymo has the voice of a scholarly, yet somewhat haughty, gentleman.
If the children you see in real life look enough like Lalas to make you think that Lalas look like children, you need to call the CDC right now and tell them there's a massive ongoing radiation leak in your area that's been causing severe mutations and birth defects in the local populous.
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.
When popoto just stands there, static, and I deliberately go on my way to judge it by human standards? Yup, lalafels look similar to kids. Sometimes with cool mustache!
When I take into account that this is fantasy game, with even weirder creatures, and that my irl human standards won't do much good here? Plus, when than static popoto starts to talk and act like an adult? Needless to say the whole "kid!" accusation just falls apart.
I understand that some may have hard time getting over visuals. But pseudo-moral panic over lalafells just existing is equallly hilarious and dumb.
They're adults when they act like them, and dastardly potatoes when they don't. Most of the NPCs act like adults to varying degrees and while I don't think they're attractive, if people are into that... well, not my business, just don't tell me about it thanks. But that applies to the people who gush over the Scion members too. I can really continue living a decent life without reading what you'd like to do with Y'shtola.
I think the people who play them tend to be either extremely immature and child-like or as obnoxious as a bratty kid though. It's always nice to find a potato player who doesn't emote spam, shout "lala pride" or make a point of their race choice, or act as an obnoxious gamer couple though. I appreciate them when I see them.
Lalafells are not children, they are Hobbits

No child can throw out an adult in a high fly

while as a race they are adults (i think we have yet to see a child lala) you can not say they arn't child like. Heck even the description of the race is 'A child like race' Hence why i find people putting them in exposing clothing a bit disturbing. when you see them being all evil its like watching kids dress up. heck the thm guild just feels like kids doing edgey harry potter dress up game.
I think Lalafells have a distinct charisma in them that makes this race more like an adult, but the one thing that makes me truly look Lalafells as adult is...
The Lore
I think most of us will agree that we see Lalafells as children at first, then, after seeing the ARR lore, we see Lalafells of many varieties. The easiest example being in Ul'Dah.
- The little receptionist Momodi is certainly up to the task bearing a big role, and she definitely looks more womanly than childlike.
- Papashan is a veteran, and his "retirement from Sultansworn" shows that he's definitely an old Lalafell who's seen younger years. Definitely not someone you wanna mess with!
- Nanamo is the sultanate of Ul'Dah despite being childlike at first.
- THM's 1-30 story shows the Coco brothers as an organized group, and see them overcoming their own fears and mature. Extends to BLM for our mentors' knowledge of the Black for plus point in intelligence.
- Our Brass Blade ally, who we encounter in the Horizon questline is a lalafell who saw through his superior's ploys and actually fought despite his cutesy appearance.
- Miner and Fisher questline shows that Lalafells are capable of doing labor work and business. Plus point in adulthood. :P
- The Syndicate, Ul'Dah's source of power, has more than a few Lalafells pulling the strings.
We eventually start to see Lalafells as little people with intelligent minds, and so the lore agrees of course, as everyone treats Lalafells as adults. The lore proves more than enough that Lalafells are not to be underestimated. This extends to the PC Lalafells imo. I see those Lalafells as people much like everyone else, but only with a plus point in cuteness.![]()
