Well to be fair, some of the point he raised are valid, it just kind of boils down to personal opinion. I just honestly couldn't tell if he mean it or was just being sarcastic to my previous comment.
To be fair, most of his points are down to one's opinion and preferences. Yes, its a fact that the same formula is beeing used for this expansion, but he makes it look like that it's, simply because of the way it is, a bad thing.
Which it is not.
Its only a bad thing if they make it a bad thing, plus people might prefer this system.
Anyways, i doubt this is the place for such talkI for one am happy with the event gear, but i am not a fan of skimpy outfits anyways. I like them as casual glamour, but not in combat. So yeah :X
Hahaha, I actually felt the same. The males in this event were supposed to be funny, mostly made for trolling purposes (and I mean for trolling het males who wanted to see the girls and instead got tons of male meat in the way), while the females were perfect goddesses.I know personal tastes are subjective to an extent but it's kind of jarring that the majority of scantily clad female NPC's are all designed in a conventionally attractive manner yet most if not all the scantily clad male NPC's are far from conventionally attractive. I sort of expected it, honestly - but it's clear they know how to make attractive male NPC's based on designs used elsewhere so it's a shame they didn't throw a bone to those of us who appreciate the male form.
It was a fun event, buuuuut that part bothered me a bit, I guess (>w<;
It's part of the latent bias; the developers make a lot of effort when they are aware of it but when they don't the male gaze flies back in with a vengeance. Girls are sexy and cute, while boys are comic relief, criminals or both. Girls get loads of sexy bonus glamour outfits, boys occasionally get thrown a bone but mostly just get phoned-in unisex options these days (the Shisui outfit variants, topically, are a lot more exciting to collect if your character is female, though I appreciate that the male top does look lovely). I don't think it's even slightly intentional. They have no idea they're doing it because the development environment is inherently biased a certain way and they assume people don't like looking at guys because they don't like looking at guys. I'm not seriously offended by any of the content of the event in any way, but it did make me sigh internally as we continue to wait for some level of equal treatment for players of all stripes.
I was also a little annoyed that one of the joke guys was wearing what appeared to be a dyeable version of the swimming trunks.
I do wonder why we even need such a quest line for an event? Make it a short: Summer is coming and people want to have fun, so hey WoL have fun too! And give us lots of things to do. Instead we get a strange quest with cutscenes where I do ask myself why they even put all the work in this. I understand that SE loves their stories but this is still an MMO and I just cant see much long lasting fun in an event that does not even take 30 minutes to completely finish.
I really wish they would decrease the amount of events and instead concentrate on like four events and make them really big. Each one could give us a music scroll, some housing items, glamour gear and maybe a pet. Just some nice amount of things to work forward too and instead of putting things into the cash shop, you could just put them back on sale for the next year thus nobody is forced to grind all the items at each event.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
So, I assume after doing the short quest line and getting the outfit, amd spending tokens on a couple of decorations and the orchestrion scroll, there's nothing else to really do but grind to buy fireworks?
So it's a custom version of the popular sets. Made dye-able. The appearance changes for the respective genders.
The spying quest, is about a male lala who likes to spy on beach-girls, not about your WoL spying on whatever she/he likes. To make the quest sort of a unisex thing, the males are prominently there as well. You can 'fail' the quest as much as you like, until you figure out who the male lala actually spied on.
A majority of players, male and female, like the original set and hence the dye-able one. The quest shows both genders on the beach doing their thing.
I mean I totally get it; if you don't like or agree with stuff you should say it. Like I will never rest on the absurdness of gated RNG raid-loot in this game, it is absolutely appalling and dare I say it - just unpleasant for the majority of people who complete a raid, even in its current state. Absolutely appalling, even when I win said rng item it feels bad towards others who tried just as hard or even harder. People have been leaving over that stuff since 1.x, they know and changed it around a little, but still see a positive bottom line with the current practice, people stay to keep trying this crap again and again, so who cares about 'shared fun', right? Now there is something to go actually mad on and be triggered about.
But saying this seasonal quest hasn't been tailored to fit a pretty wide audience, saying they are blind to equality... I mean come on, let a bit of that ego go and open your eyes, it's trying very hard to be unisex and funny in a broad sense;
Flaunting males and females. Perverted males and females. Good and bad males and females. Dye-able gear for both sexes.
Do not make 'not liking the gear yourself' a bigger issue than it really is in-game, or on the forums? Check yourselves! /pet /pet /pet <3
