How does a player not needing an active sub to use a forum mean said player is going to resub? They'll only believe when you start paying.

I stopped subbing to take a short break.

They implemented a terrible solution to a terrible problem, preventing me from wanting to resub.

Without an active sub, I had no outlet to tell them (on their official forums at least) why I was not going to resub. I would think that would be valuable information for them. Maybe I could have posted a reddit or something and encouraged someone to post it here for me.

for what it's worth, this game without housing is worth it for a few months per expansion at least. The story is awesome and the patches and events are usually enough to keep my interest engaged. I remember hearing about the housing demolition implementation and cheering since it meant that people who had long since quit but hadn't relinquished their plots would finally be letting someone else have a chance. I didn't see it so much as keeping people hostage as giving others a chance at a supremely limited resource.

I do hope in the future they find a way to give everyone housing and they can remove the "threat" of losing your plot, but for now with the current system I feel it's necessary to keep the houses in the hands of people who are actively playing.

You don't need an active sub to read patch notes. Patch notes are made public on the official website. If you had kept up, you would've known.

But of course, I understand if you were on a break you didn't read the patch notes because you probably didn't think you'd come back.

I made the same mistake too when they expanded the housing wards. I wasn't actively subscribed during that time, and I didn't keep up with patch notes. By the time I came back, all the houses were long gone. But oh well, it's not something to beat myself up about or get mad, especially considering the fact I was gone for about 4 months.

I accepted it and got an apartment. And I'm pretty happy with my apartment. And to be honest, even if I were to get a house, I'd probably lose it because I don't see myself subscribing every month.


And if you're like me, you'd probably take long breaks too.

I recommend you to take the time to enjoy the other features of the game, and to check out apartments. It's still a great game, despite the trouble with housing.

Who says it's a new player? I been playing since 2.2 and I never had a house because I cannot seem to amass the sum of gil required for one. Don't generalise it only to new players.

But shouldn't current users be given the chance at housing too? It sucks I get that but with a shortage on housing they have to do something. It also has the effect of keeping the housing areas from looking less abandoned by doing this.

Even with this in place, many wards are still empty. No one sits in the wards. >.>

That is the nature of this game unfortunately. I mean did you see what happened on that one server where two people bought an ENTIRE freaking WARD for themselves. An entire WARD. Considering that housing is limited in FF XIV and not instanced like in other MMOs, SE had to put in a penalty to make it fair to others. Heck they even had to give us apartments as another way for players to get something!

Geryth, if you do plan on resubbing and taking regular breaks, I'd suggest getting an apartment. While they're only about the size of a free company room, they're also permanent. There's no demolish timer, so you can take breaks without worrying about it being gone when you come back. The buildings have chocobo stables on the outside, a delivery moogle, and different vendor NPCs in the lobby. The only thing they don't have is outdoor gardening.

So you played for what? a year? Then quit the game for 2 years. You were warned about the time limit for demolishing houses that weren't being used and decided you didn't want to be bothered to keep your house by subbing. THEN you used a free pass just to come here and cry?????
Sorry but the housing shortage made keeping UNUSED houses as ridiculous as your entire post.

Alright, so your join date is Feb 2014. You stopped playing about two years ago (2015), so you've effectively played for just over a year. Assuming your house was never empty after it was demolished, another player(s) has played from 2015 until today, 2017. They've paid the equivalent of two years worth of subscription, while you've paid only one.

If anything, they should have the house more than you.
