its fine, we have sprint for short distances then mounts. On top of that we teleport almost everywhere so there's hardly any need for travel to begin with. Yes you brought those points up yourself but how much more convenience do we need? Personally i think we have too much of it and could do with less aetherytes.

As for newer players, i dont think there has been any change. I got my mount post 20 and i started playing in 2.0 so not sure what you meant by that.

edit: I would support allowing mounts in cities though.

its partly a "why not?" situation. again, i do not see how such a change would, specifically, "break the game" in any way shape or form without the mention of some personal paranoia or unsupported claim. for example, "im afraid the devs may work around it and make the game even slower", "i dont like it when people run", "real world logic: people can't run all the time", "i like mounts", "game is meant to be slow", etc.

i do also want to bring it up again that short distance travel for sprint is rather limited if the player has to go to more than one NPC/node. again, if the dialog is or interaction time is long enough, the player would need to either use repeatedly use mounts or deal with jogging until sprint is available again.

i believe that such an addition would make movement in general far less limited and clunky since most basic movement always boils down to repetitively mounting and dismounting just because sprint's convenience is less reliable.

This is the biggest QOL improvement SE could ever implement. Movement speed affects everything in the game.

    The only question I have.

Is this a design choice to limit it so much or would unlimited sprint affect game performance if everyone could do it?

You can say you are fine with how sprint is. But you were fine before mounts or fast travel became a common thing in rpgs and mmos. You were fine with mmos before Auction House became a standard. Would you still be fine if sprint was unlimited outside combat? I would say yes, you may not prefer it, but you would still be fine.

Speed and not having to dismount does add a certain flow to the game that makes it feel more free. Before jumping was added here, there was an argument on why jumping was needed? Before jumping puzzles were added, it still wasn't needed. But the game sure does feel more free with it.(even more free if some invisible walls were not present)

As long as unlimited sprint would not affect global performance for all players, then sign me up. If it could potentially affect performance.

Make sprint be based off a 60 second energy that ticks down every second you sprint. Every second you are not sprinting, whether in cutscenes or whatever, it gradually refills similar to tp or mp regen.

As for not wanting sprint to be hotkey based. I would prefer a sprint be tied to the L1 button on controllers. With autorun being moved to the hotkey format or being on a hold button function for some button besides L1.

Questing for a mount and companion one time can be fair and rewarding, a rite of passage. But doing it on multiple characters for players who like playing alts is tedious. I hope SE looks at this thread you created.

Lastly, just because something is implemented, doesn't mean someone will always do or use it.

We did it before they doubled the cooldown. New players now get only half as much use of Sprint as you or I had for traveling around for the first 20+ levels of the game when mounts aren't yet available.

I don't know that it needs to be unlimited. (That would kind of negate the point of mounts until you reach HW areas and unlock flying.) But I'd like to see the cooldown changed back to what it was when out of combat. Or at the very least, give DoL classes a trait that lowers it, making Sprint as viable for gathering as it used to be.

I'd personally move to have Peloton not wear off in-combat, but maybe that's just me. >_>

mounts are much faster than they were back then. you dont really need to do anything time-consuming to get the first star in each area so far as i'm informed. either way, there is still a big difference between mount speed and sprint speed, so mounts will still maintain their usefulness upon level 20 and beyond.

other than that, Aylis has already suggested a classic stamina system which is just as welcoming.

As much of an annoyance it has been after being used to sprinting in towns for the last 3-4 years, I just got used to it. TBH, I'd rather they fix the issue of sprint eating dualcast (assuming it is a bug as the wording for the buff is questionable).

that's all well and good for you, but i dont see this as a legitimate reason not to change how sprint works.

I dont think it should be unlimited, but the way Sprint is now is very annoying and should be improved.
