when you "repair", the crafting window comes up, not the confirmation box. You do need to pay more attention. A confirmation box != crafting window, stop clicking through things without paying attention.

They should add the ability to "lock" items and make them un-materia-able until unlocked. I really take care when I'm tired/not paying attention and going through my item list for materia fodder.
the ui is trash but we all no this and yes op should have paid more attention and actualy read what the words on the screen say instead of button mashing thru it

but... it's the truth...
i once actually materiaed an item by accident when i wanted to meld a materia to it
It's called your brain. The UI could be utter shit, but you still have to pay attention to what you're doing. Why do they have to put Materia right next to repair? I just accidentally materiaed my +1 wand that had a healer's hand 4 on it. I guess I'm so used to materiaing things that I clicked the wrong thing.
People generally don't want to materia stuff they've put materia in, so why do they not have a better safeguard in place? I've known others to accidentally materia gear too. Reminds me of when they had the option to destroy your retainer with everything on it right next to the dismiss option.
This is more to the developers than the forum trolls who will cry the UI is amazing.
This feels like you're arguing over having done alt+1 to do Sentinel during Ifrit instead of ctrl+1. That's obviously just bad key placement.

repairs DO NOT have the same warning window
why the hell would they warn you that you are repairing?
and sorry, not a troll who responded to you, he pointed out a fact, you ignored the warning window, cuz you just werent paying attentioon, and hate to tell you, thats player error, not bad game design

dont blame hiir for your stupidity, in this case there is nothing wrong with the UI, it has to go somewhere on the list and if your too much in a hurry to take the 3 seconds to read the boxes, the fault lies in you.

While I sympathize your loss, I do not agree that the person in reply #5 was trolling. They're simply just pointing out a fact, though with a stern and probably unfriendly tone.
Also, the warning windows aren't the same;
Materia warning:
Repair window:
Your character also immediately kneels down if you have the correct Repair Material in you.
However, I have to agree that it is easy to make the mistake if I am careless or being click-happy when I do these actions.
Putting default cursor position on "NO" sounds like the solution I agree with the most.

@Aleczan: You say that cause you don't know me. ^^
The correct tone for my post is "Puzzled".
