I'm not usually one to care about immersion, but this is a serious problem.

I need an armoire to dump some gear, and my FC got rid of ours since I last used it, so I decided to head to the inn in Kugane to use its armoire. When I head inside, I'm greeted by a beautiful traditional Japanese-style room, complete with a tatami floor. Here's the thing about tatami, though - it's sacrilege to walk on tatami with any footwear other than socks. Yet our character models still cannot go shoeless.

I was willing to look the other way when we couldn't go shoeless despite swimming being added, but making us walk around in clunky shoes on a tatami mat is just sad. I usually don't care about fluff stuff like this, but this just irks me a lot.

I'm wondering then if the solution to this would be to make it so for that inn room, whatever footwear you have on is glamoured to be bare feet (no sandals etc), or maybe socks. Think of it like that fight in Coerthas where the Grand Melee I think it was (you ended up fighting Raubahn), was held. You got force glamoured into Ishgardian armour for that fight (well done for that btw SE, that was a nice touch!). All they have to do is release an item that is bare feet with no sandals. Then in the inn room, they can make it a forced glamour to that item. Outside of it, it can be used as a glamour option. Everyone's a winner.

Ehhhh, one can argue very easily that the entire Far East is based off of the real world. Hingashi/Kugane is based off of Japan, that much is certain, while Yangxia is clearly inspired by China in it's entire aesthetic, and the Azim Steppe is pretty much Mongolia on steroids with some hints of Tibetan culture. Hell if you know anything of the Bakumatsu era of Japan then Kugane is basically a eye and mind candy for the historical nerd with all it's homages. (The Sekiseigumi are clearly an homage to the Shinsengumi.) Yet even with the aesthetics being clearly ripped from each real world culture, the culture of these areas are not a mirror to the real world. Each area is unique in it's own right which is why you can't really fully apply real world logic to them unless the lore specifically states otherwise. Hell, Yanxia and Doma with it are inspired very clearly by China and yet everyone there has a Japanese name and even has ninja for Pete's Sake.

The whole place is based off of Asia in general, not just Japan... lol. You see Chinese and Korean culture there too.

Based on Japan =/= is Japan.

Kugane culture is not likely to be exactly like Japanese culture and does not have to be.

Just because it's based on Japan doesn't mean it's identical to Japanese culture. This is a fantasy game that draws from it. You may be taking it too literally.

See also Lakshmi modelled heavily on the Hindu goddess of wealth. There isn't any drama on her namesake repeatedly being bested in game even though in real life she is prayed to by countless people daily (see also Shiva, etc)
