    I don't think it is that bad. This is how I set mine up to make it easy for me. #1-6, Shift 1-6, QE F1F2F3F4, Shift Q E F1F2F3F4. All these are for my main spells I use. Ctrl 1-6 and Shift QE F1F2F3F4 are for my situational spells. Everything is in within left hand finger reach.

    I play WoW that way as well with the Dominos addon. I guess it is easier for me to see the aoes on the ground and what is generally going on with most of the screen not cluttered, so I guess I got used to it.
