Amen this thread is more meaningful than all the current ones combined. Not only does the game design insult your intelligence, it also makes me mad to think about the fact that somebody thought this would be fun enough. Grrr. Sure gamers have devolved a lot during the past decade but not THIS much! (I hope)

Well actually it's 70% luck, and uh, 10% know how and 20% mats...

I really don't get how people can have multiple crafts at 50.

I can understand battle classes since they usually require your attention, but crafting.. what the hell? Seriously, if I have to wait for a specific show on television to come on so that I can craft and "have fun", something is seriously wrong.

Personally i think crafting is fun. i know it has a reputation for being a Enter/Xbutton mashing system but this isn't the case.

    When you look at DoH and the way it works it's very similar to DoW/M and many parallels can be drawn;

Skills: Just like DoW/M you need to level other DoH classes for the essential skills.

Gear/Materia: Just like DoW/M Gear and Materia have a huge effect on DoH (post 1.19).

Exp/Leveling: now this is where the button mashing comes in, just like DoW/M (solo) there are two ways to get exp you can go for the easy synths the ones that only give 200-300 a synth or go for the tougher ones that offer a challange, the ones that give 600-700exp a synth. this is the same as killing a mob that is much lower level then you vs and mob the same lvl.

The lower ones gear/skills have very little influence on the outcome but the exp sucks and it very slow and very boaring. or you could do the tougher mobs/synths and this is where it becomes fun. if you try to button mash it you will fail the synth most of the time, same as if you try to fight a tougher mob w/o using any abilitys or weapon skills just and letting auto attack do the work you will die most of the time. it's this user interaction that makes any class enjoyable and not a boaring mindless grind.

I do not think SE should change (gimp) this system, the people who pefer battle classes are always going to see crafting/gathering as a chor. when the changes we're announced for 1.19 many ppl who disliked DoH prased the change however post patch they still dilike DoH (not a dig/flame of anyone here) this is just the natute of ppl.

there are many people that pefer DoH/L over DoW/M and when it comes to paying to play this is what they will be paying for. if this sytem is made automatic it will make the game less enjoyable for these players (and there are many). in the same way if they gimped the battle classes to make it all automatic (engage wait to see if you win or not) this is something i would not like to see either lol.

i agree the sytem could use some more tweeking like removing the action timer so you can actually chat in LS w/o failing, and new recipes to give more options on what to craft through the levels. but over all it's a good system and SE has done a very good job on it.

Edit: i jsut wanted to add a commnet on the luck aspect.

when it comes to completing a synth luck plays a very small role know how and good gear knowing what stats to boost etc is by far the biggest factor.

But when it comes to HQ'n luck palys a much bigger role, if it's a finished item then HQ'n is defentlyy more player based then luck. but when trying to HQ mats/parts no mater how good you are at crafting luck needs to be on your side and this imballance needs to be addressed, though looking forward to the future where all HQ mats = HQ iitem the current sytem works well (not perfect) as it'll make HQ gear more desirable.

I think you could apply that statement to nearly everything in the game

Crafting = Netflix time with a gamepad!

Which as you can tell, I don't yet have the mats to do or enjoy that.

I guess crafting will get its overhaul soon enough and we'll see.

And to further prove my point, you say to HQ items without Hq mats is hard. That's because it's all luck! Even if you apply your best knowledge and all the careful synths favor you and succeed, you will probably still not get a HQ item.

The entire crafting system is a RNG game.
You obtain HQ mats by properly gearing your Gathering class to obtain said mats.
Attribute effects for Disciples of the Land:

STR: During the logging approach phase, it will be easier to determine the proper angle for each item.
VIT: During the mining approach phase, it will be easier to determine the proper force needed for each item.
DEX: During the fishing approach phase, it will be easier to determine the proper rod movement for each item.
INT: Number of items acquired by botanists will be increased.
MND: Number of items acquired by miners will be increased.
PIE: Number of items acquired by fishers will be increased.
Gathering: Lessens depletion of the Remainder gauge when using a main hand tool, and increases the chance of gathering. items when using an off hand tool.
Output: Increases the number of gathers or hooked fish.
Perception: Makes it easier to obtain high quality items.

This was brought up by one of the community reps a while back but basically if you want HQ mats then pump up your perception.

When it comes to "fun" honestly do you consider the strat you use when you prepare to level up crafting. When you decide to level up crafting you don't think to yourself, ok let me start makinga bunch of equipment and spam it. For the most part it's ok what "parts" material can I get good skillup on for the best amount of gil. You see what's available, stock up and begin to spam. That's just how it is if you want to level fast, if you want it to be more fun then level up on gear instead and try to HQ as much as possible lol but you'll soon stop that since you'll see that just spamming a recipe is the fastest route to reach the lv cap to produce gear for high level people.

When you start making gear that's whenyou can see how the system works basically trying to get as much quality as possible but at the same time keeping durability up so you can continue to touch up without breaking it. Crafting classes are a class of patience, you have to be willing to take the time to level it and through that you have to determine the quickest route to that and that route is to mass produce one recipe that's the easiest to do.

And even for those that just spam enter there are other ways to speed it up. For me I have Carpenter at 36/37 so I grabbed Perfection which helps me quite a bit when leveling up. Even though people say they just spam enter for me I try to find the synth that gives me about 500-600 xp and just spam it til I run out of materials. During that time though I"m not just hitting enter I keep an eye for when Perfection comes up as well as Preserve, and at times I even use the wait command if I find it being to risky to win at the end and hope for a Perfection to pop up and activate without fail.

For those who find it boring perhaps they are taking the easy route of spamming enter while working on recipes that give them 200-300 xp a synth, so they are doing the recipe with the least amount of risk but at the same time they suffer at an increased time to actually level up. I've taken 4 crafts up to 20 in the last few days and I honestly find the pace find since one should not be able to lv crafting as fast as a melee class. If crafting was to easy then everyone would have it leveled but it's "downfall" if people want to call it that is to prevent everyone from leveling it, it's made to be a class for those who want to make money and gear and for those that want to do that they have the patience to deal with the "tedious" nature of spamming the same recipe to level up.
