Looks like we got a lot of people staying according to the current Like counts on the first few posts.

/gcsalute to Yoshi. If it weren't for him, this game might have already shut down.

I'm staying (my first post, does it matter?). I've actually been playing since the pre-release beta, and saw the potential this game had. The previous dev team didnt even begin to tap the potential, but Yoshi and his team have turned this game into so much more than it was. Hell, i was willing to pay for the game back when it first released, so i'm damned sure going to pay for it now!

I'm here to tell you that I have no lag problems. I got my rounter replaced a few months back and have been lag free.
Now I'm sure people do have lag I'm not saying they don't. But they might want to.

A: Have the rounter they use check out or replace.
B: Look at the system they are using and see if they could replace something.
    C All of the above.

And just a little fact most companys that provide the net will often move older customers over to other more populated line to make room for new customers so that the new costomers will have top speeds.
Old costomer gets moved to more populated line means slower speeds.

I myself will call my provider ever few months to have a tech come out and check my speeds it's free I just need to be home.
Everytime that tech comes out I'm aways left with a better speed than before.

Also the only person here looking like an imbecile is you for not knowing what your freaking talking about.
How do you know that person doesn't have a bad router? Me telling him it could be bad and him calling to have it checked out might fix his problems.

It's not about whether or not ppl can afford it lol....it's the concept of it, guys. I think everyone can "afford" to not eat 2 of the 30+ meals they probably spend 15 bucks on every month. But who can JUSTIFY paying SE FULL PRICE for a game that isn't even close to presentable. Like the OP said, this game is, essentially, still in it's beta test. SE ruined any chances of us "bearing the burden" of their debt with them, when they decided to put corporate greed ahead of customer satisfaction. Paying full price for this game is telling them, "you've managed to earn my trust and respect back" -and, that, certainly, is not the case with me. I would sooner BURN 15 dollars every month, than put it towards this game. I don't mind paying like...half-price or something. That, at least, is some sort of concession on SE's part. As of right now, they're saying: "we walked all over you once before, and we're going to do it again...if you don't like it, then leave. We'll make plenty of money off of the other <insert crude insult here>."

They waived the subscription fee for over a year. If you don't feel like it is worth paying for, don't, but stop acting like this is a prime example of "corporate greed". Honestly, I think you are overreacting just a little bit.

It doesn't matter how large the community is if they aren't willing to support the game.

Games aren't cheap to develop. Over the few years before its release a lot of money will have been spent on its development. Since its release we've has 1 year of free play, with SE continuing to support it, both through its on going development, the full scale development of a new version and the support and moderation of the community through the site, forums and regular interviews with fan sites.

SE is still a company and can only survive if they're making money. If something is being so much of a money sink with no returns it wouldn't be viable for them to continue to support it.

Most of the people complaining that the game isn't worth paying for yet have continued to play the game for over 1 year since its launch, and have probably put in several hundred hours of game play.

With version 2.0 another year away, paying the wages of the 250+ staff working both on the current version and the future version is going to cost a lot more for SE which leaves SE with several choices. Take the losses they've incurred already and shut down the game; continue to pour money in to the development and incur even more losses in the hope of recouping them later; or start charging now.

After one year, most of the players who really didn't enjoy the game should have already stopped playing. Therefore, the amount of players lost SHOULD be relatively small, though as we can see of these forums there are a few that still like to linger. That is why polls on fan sites can be more skewed than the ones here, because here you're only seeing what will be lost in the future, not those who have left already.

Would people on the fan sites come back if the game continued to be free? Probably not otherwise they would have come back already. While many may come back after the version 2.0 release, SE have already announced that another free trial will be offered then in order for those prospective players to see if they want to return after than point.

Even with the "polls" on this site, the sample size is fairly small. To take this thread as an example, only ~600 have voted. Much smaller than the current community, though on the fan sites I've seen, their sample sizes were even smaller. Many people choose to just continue to play and not bother with forums on either the official or unofficial sites.

From the start, FFXIV has been planned to be a subscription based game. People knew what they were signing up for. I think some of those complaining are likely to be those that joined after they found out about the extended free period and thought they were going to get a free ride. A ride they've now found is coming to an end.

You pay if you want to and you don't pay if you don't want to. If it's not close to presentable why are you constantly playing it?

It's clearly presentable if you're willing to play it even while it's free.

Saying full price for this game is telling them, "you've managed to earn my trust and respect back" -and, that, certainly, is not the case with me.
Which is fine, but you shouldn't state that people should have to justify paying them because you personally feel you shouldn't.

No, he was right. You're wrong. You have lag. You lag when taking stuff out of your retainers, when waiting for NPCs to bring up menus, and so on. I know this because it has nothing to do with your computer or your ISP or anything else in your control. He was also correct when he stated this is a major reason for the new servers in 2.0.

    Imbecile.
