Blue Mage or Rune Fencer
Blue Mage or Rune Fencer
Blue Mage for sure. It would be nice to have the next colored Mage as a tank.
No hammers or mages please: Why you have such weapon for a noble role like tank (Axes are neither, but too late to remove it)? A Mage with Fending gear?
Gunblades and Scythes. That's all.
I would add Mystic Knight (as a fusion between FFV's Mystic Knight and FFVI's Rune Knight).
The main mechanic behind the job would be balancing Runic (a skill that absorbs a portion of the damage received or done as a reusable resource for the Mystic Knight) to change normal combos into Spellblade combos (for example, Mystic Sword > Revolving Sword becomes Fire Sword > Flare Sword, an attack that causes damage and auto-casts Fire and Flare when used)
The signature defense skill would be "Magic Shell", a cooldown that reflects 100% of the damage of auto-attacks received back to the targets for 10 seconds.
TL;DR: Mystic Knight, a magical tank that can reflect damage and auto-cast spells with Weaponskills.

Long before the job was introduced in FFXI, there was speculation on the forums that Geomancer could be implemented as a mage-style tank, using terrain-based spells for mitigation and enmity. Standing on earth gives you access to a Stoneskin-like ability; standing in water enables a reflect buff that turns some of the damage you take back against the attacker for extra enmity. Standing on metal grants a straight-up damage reduction buff. That kind of thing. I thought the idea was really cool and interesting.
Even if not Geomancer, I'd love to see a mage tank of some kind. Naturally such a job would need to have either instant-cast spells or almost perfect resistance to spell interruption since they'll be spending the majority of their time being punched in the face.
I would have made Samurai a Tank.

Magitek Knight with gun-blade as main weapon and an energy shield generator (would be a good explanation for defensive CDs). Could have the class quests revolve around Nero or Garlond Ironworks making equipment for us to test and the like.
I've talked about pet tanks for awhile with many players across many MMOs, and what you suggest is something most people do at the start, but as time goes on, there's other ways to balance pet tank jobs.Pupeteer-Class, where you attack and take hits through your pet.
But other than already suggest in this thread, you would share the same HP-Pool with your pet. If it dies, so do you (otherwise it would be to OP and not balanceable).
I would like a different Kind of tank as well. Currently all tanks are quite straightforward brutes. The Problem with my Suggestion however, would be the control for the PS4-Players. As clunky as the pet-comanding currently is on a Controller, you would have a hard time as a PS4 Player.
One issue that comes from this, is that if your pet dies, you are essentially useless, which is why "it dies, you die" doesnt actually seem too bad honestly.
But, what if the reverse happens?
If your pet is tanky, but you're not. If you die to raid wide dmg, your pet would disappear., or at best, be nearly useless.
So one build we've thought of was making it so the master has to be healed, in order to heal the pet more effectively.
If you heal the pet directly, its a 1:1 ratio.
If you heal the master, its a 1:1 ratio if they are not at full HP.
If the master is at full HP, then it gains a 50% modifier.
In short, this makes sure both u and your pet are kept up.
I'd also have the owner take "remainder" dmg. If the pet has 1k hp, and the boss hits for 2k, the pet takes 1k dmg, then dies, and 1k remainder goes to the master.
So only the true "invincible" ability would save the master from taking remainder dmg.
And something similar for CDs in general.
(of course none of this has to happen to make it work, there's other ways to do it.)
While I would love this, I would have preferred it on RDM, giving RDM a "job stone" to correlate to 1 of the 3 roles, instead of just 1 roll.
So for now, I guess a tank with a protective buff, some self healing, AoE spells, Ranged spells, and single target melee skills would have to fit the BLU style instead.
(Self healing is lack luster when it comes to the DPS meta, which is why I think RDM is better suited for this, as double cast could have limited the 2nd cast to white magic, and oGCD slapped on cures/regens/haste, depending on the remaining duration of haste/regen. Also woulda been the 1st tank with a 2s GCD like MNK/NIN.)
Also still waiting for the DoW melee healer, with a shorter 2s GCD.
(Wish the tether of SCHs fairy wasnt a thing, as the tether would be better for a melee healer design. Melee, to enhance its effective HoT effect. Also wanted the RDM's jump in and out, style to maintain the tether, as you cant always be in melee range, and will have to rely on MP for some parts, which is less sustain than the melee option, but also helps work with BRD/MCH etc.)

CLAIRE PENDRAGON
A Tank with a pole, pole fighter. I just think it would be cool, because it could be someone who fights to defend. Who used chi to meditate and use abiltiies from channeling into it. But thats just me lol.
This.
Already have the sorcery based tank, the classic regal sword/board defender and the sorta_kinda rage based axe wielder. Techno-tank and pure brawler are pretty much the only tanking archetypes left, and magitek knight works well, considering a number of FF single player titles where that was main or close to main character.
