From day one i have been a Viera supporter (actually since FFXI), however that was with the caveat that the appear more like Fran's (FFXII variant) build as opposed to simply Miqo'te with rabbit ears and a fluffy tail.
With AuRa, a great chance was ripped from our hands. As both variants of the race shared a noticeable sexual dimorphism, very easily we could have had the lore actually mater for AuRi tribes and had Raen represented as taller males and smaller females (current) & had Xaela be represented by lager females and shorter males. Not only would have this work in concert with in game lore of the Xaela AuRa but also given female characters (and males) in game a much refreshing character models to enjoy. Tall, curvaceous, adult looking female forms and thin, effeminate male forms.
Aura lore:
Au Ra
The curved horns and beautifully patterned scales that characterize the Au Ra oft give rise to speculation that this Hyur-like race native to the Far Eastern continent of Othard are, in fact, the progeny of dragons. This, however, has long been disputed, with scholars citing several distinct differences in the two races as evidence of decidedly dissimilar roots—the first and foremost being the enhanced hearing and spatial recognition granted by an Au Ra's cranial projections (traits not attributed to draconian horns), and the second being the gross disproportion of body mass between Auri males and females (again, a trait widely unseen in dragons).
Raen:
Raen:
Auri creation myth tells of a Dawn Father and a Dusk Mother from whom all Au Ra are descended. The Raen believe their veins to run thick with the blood of the former—their brilliant white scales and iron wills serving as proof of this divine lineage.
Unlike their sister clan, the Xaela, who bloody the land with their endless tribal conflict, the Raen have embraced a life of tranquility and solitude, long abandoning the nomadic lifestyle of their ancestors to settle the deep valleys of Othard's mountainous eastern reaches. Only on rare occasions will one emerge from the valley mists to seek adventure in realms afar.
Xaela:
Xaela:
Auri creation myth tells of a Dawn Father and a Dusk Mother from whom all Au Ra are descended. The Xaela believe their veins to run thick with the blood of the latter—their lustrous black scales and fiery wills serving as proof of this divine lineage.
Unlike their sister clan, the Raen, who lead solitary lives hidden behind the savage peaks of Othard's eastern reaches, the Xaela are free spirits who roam the vast western steppe in close-knit tribes hunting, gathering, and warring as their ancestors have for countless generations.
As of late not only has Yoshi given new hope to Viera fans but also named Fran herself in the example of what Viera may possibly be seen as in FFXIV. This to me is nothing short of monuments news and is greatly encouraging. In saying all that however i strongly feel that child like is not the way to go. While they would indeed be unique (as unique as the current mithr... Miqo'te army...) i feel the hassle of having child like races would be not only detrimental to the dev team, in having to circumvent possible back lash due to depictions of child like characters in adult situations and be the targets of violence, i also personally hate when potato's are used for gear/ skill showcases (great... new armor is being shown on a lala...). Dismiss it as you may, but the history is there, Tera online had to censored in what the Elin race wore in EU and English patches, articles of Sexualization of children were published, even the modeling of LaLafell were directly affected due to the need to make them less able to be mistaken for children (i.e. giant heads and the body of shrunken teletubbies).
I resolutely believe that the child Viera art is just that, and hope they will be integrated in to Hydalen but not as a playable race.
A effeminate early twenties variant for males should be acceptable and one i feel would be more sensible to implement , example:
often used old fan art of a male Viera concept.
