Yeah, it's basically how it was with Final Fantasy Tactics -- Need x & y (sometimes z) jobs at a certain level in order to unlock another job.
Might be hard to balance DRG, glad to hear it has its own unique way of dealing damage though.
If you can just combo attacks easily together and that's set to do relatively the most damage it'd be easy to overpower MNK and WAR.
If it's too hard to pull off most DRG's will be weaker than the two other DD's on the other hand.
Really good read, Great find!
The bit about the summoning system sounds interesting, Though i do hope they will tie in some lesser creatures that can be summoned more then once as well.

It'll only be hard to those who can't do it properly depending on how the combo attack is...I REALLY...Might be hard to balance DRG, glad to hear it has its own unique way of dealing damage though.

...Really....
Hate to use this as an example, but in MapleStory/Sea there's a class where you have to input button combos (kind of like a fighter) and your damage was purely based on your ability to chain combos.
So if its anything like that, it'll be easy to balance because it's balance is in the mechanic itself.
That's great. I have to admit one thing though, it's a great shame that the FF tactics games eluded me. The only FF games I managed to miss somehow.
Balance relative to other jobs is harder. If DRG has to work extra hard to be able crit attacks while other jobs have an easier time to pull off the same DPS, that makes the job a bit unattractive. So if its anything like that, it'll be easy to balance because it's balance is in the mechanic itself.
If crits make the job deal most DPS (which the interview hints at), other DD jobs need to bring something else to the table if they want to secure a spot in an event. It's hard to beat more DPS tho.
Me too, that news almost had me "Jump" at Yoshida for real xDReally good interview! ^.^
Very good questions!. He did disclose too much info on Primals Summoning! Hah!. And I hope Square-Enix sees the communication Yoshida is having with us is, in-part, what has made us believe in SE again and gladly pay fees for this game, besides the point that the game is really fun now ^^.
Anyway, hope this engine allows Dragoon to have his Jump.
Thanks for all the nice comments in such a short amount of time, i'm glad you had fun while reading, as you can see, we had our deal of fun as well![]()

The little blurb about not having lag in the US made me giggle. There's definitely server lag for Plumes and Eruptions in the US. 4-5 seconds more than EU is stretching it a little bit.
In some othger interview the implication was everyone would have combos, most likely what they mean is drg will have combos based around criticals, or really strong critical damage with them or something. A lil sad, because honestly combos and criticals sounds more like a pugilist playstyle. guess we ll see soon enough how it all comes togetherBalance relative to other jobs is harder. Yeah I really enjoy the summoning concept. The summoner class will be able to expand in diversity and be comparable to the actual FF titles by renewing/creating new summon concepts. Ie: Maduin, Carbuncle, Phoenix, Seraph, Moomba, Yojimbo.
I really also appreciate they want the gods to be really meaningful and still summonable too.
But I think what excited me the most was housing![]()
Being able to see and customize the outside of the house, as well as putting it in a 'city/district' type of area is a really good thing. I am pleased to see they are taking a lot of the community ideas and putting them in.
Now we just need Tetra Master confirmation!
